A Guide to Posting and Answering Questions on the Forums

The DR forums are blessed with a lot of experienced members, so people looking for help generally can find it.

With that in mind, some times questions are lacking in needed info to give a good answer and sometimes answeres are given without making sure the question is understood (for example tips that work on a 2-stroke may not work well on a 4-stroke.)

So, when posting a question, at the minimum we need the following:
Bike Make
-Bike Model
-Bike year
Ex: 2006 Yamaha YZ-250
-Any changes from stock such as jetting, pipes etc.
-If known, how many hours (or best estimate)on the bike.
-A complete explanation of the issue, symptoms or changes leading up to it, what if anything has already been tried.

When answering, make sure you have enough info to give a valid answer, and if not ask for clarification.  Also, don't feel it necessary to give an answer just so one is posted.  Or, if you are not sure but have a hunch note it.  Try not to just hand out "canned responses".  An example is fouled plugs.  When some one posts "My bike fouls plugs" the immediate replies are "jet leaner".  That may be the cause but there are others as well.  You need to know the condition of the top end, did it gradually start fouling or always has done it, what mix they are running, is it stock jetting etc.

And as always on a forum; make sure you understand any advice or tips given.  Its your bike and your safety, so if you don't understand a reply; question it.  Often there are multiple ways to do things.

its better to own nothing worldly and still have your identity
then have the world and no identity

You might want to take it off, pat. I am not even kidding when I say this, you will have cops show up at your house tomorrow. My friend said something about worshipping him on his myspace and cops showed up at his house the next to investigate if he was a terrorist.
