elko6: people say that all the time. you want something with more power but you dont need something with more power.
to tell you the truth the only peole that actually say they need more power are the people that cant ride good. instead of practicing more and making themselves faster with practice they decide to get a bigger engine or upgrade the engine. when really all they are doing is making themselves slower but they think they are going faster.
travis pastrana rides a 125 and beats people on 450's.
if you really want something with more power then why are you looking at a 250f. this has similar power to a 125.
you can buy whatever you want but you asked for advice and i am telling you that just because it seems like it doesnt have that many cc's because their are bikes with 450cc but really they arent slow. if you say a 125 is slow then you need more practice.
i ride a 125 and have never said a 125 is slow but at the same time i am looking for a 250T to race but i know i can handle the bike. i have been riding since i was 9. and i am now 17 turning 18. and i know i will be faster on a 250 because i have experience.
i still say that a 125 will have more then enough power for you.
Exactly. My dad has ridden all his life but sold his last bike when him and my mom got married. after riding my RM125 he doesnt want anything bigger than a 125 2 stroke. it has plenty of power.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only reason a four-stroke can beat a two-stroke is because of the double displacement advantage

These guys have great points. You can get your hands on a 05 YZ125 for dirt cheap and have yourself the best 125 made. Learn to ride it and you will love it. There is nothing like the feeling of passing a guy on a 450 with a smaller bike.

Im gonna vote for the 250 2 stroke they last longer between rebuild's than a 125 are way cheaper to rebuild than a 4stroke. and can be short shifted till you get used to it.

I just want to say, I am not going to tell you to go to a 125, but most of these posts are right on, I had a 2005 YZ 250, first of all the bike is way fast, I ride Vet A and I can say that more than likely this bike will make you not like riding, it will be very hard for you to learn how to ride, and anyway the suspension on the 2005's is tough to get dialed in and I also wiegh 160lbs and its way to stiff for me, now on the other hand the 250f is a great all around bike but the thumpers do tend to make you lazy and not develop the skills to become a good competitor if thats what you wish to do. I made my son start on a kx60, then to a kx100, then to a kx125, now i think i may put him on a 250f and he is now 17. I ques in closing is don,t go over your head and get a bike that will get you hurt cause your riding over your head and then ruin it for you forever. Good luck.
