I just bought a brand new left-over 07 KX 250. The stock chain is crappy and I'm getting paranoid that its going to snap. I'm looking into a RK 520 Gold X-ring with a Renthal front and a Renthal Twin-Ring rear. Am I overdoing it with the X-ring and twin ring? Or would a standard aluminum rear be okay?
My stats are this: Relatively new woods rider, 220 pounds.

Depends on what you mean. Are there cheaper alternatives? Yes, but what you have selected are very good and will last a good while so as long as its in your budget you will be happy.

I would eat up the new ones first , Its not going to snap. Then after break in and used to the bike go with a full side winder set up. But thats just what i would do.

Good for durability and the all important BLING factor.

I agree with Woods on letting the stock chin and sprockets wear out first. They should get you throught the rest of the riding season before needing to be replaced.
A full Sidewinder set up is expensive but it could outlast your bike. The twin ring is also very good. It will last much longer than any aluminum rear sprocket making it well worth the extra cost. Same goes for the chain. A good alternative to sidewinders chain is the FB chain from Moose. This thing is strong! I had one on my quad and it barely stretched after a year.

I wasn't going for the bling factor, I was just looking at the 520 Gold because it has a tensile strength of 8500 lbs. There are cheaper alternatives, but I want to do it right and not have to worry about it.

The advantage of O-ring chains is not strength. It's how they last longer by keeping swivel points clean and lubed by sealing out the dirt.

Bill is right, And power wash or not treat a o-ring right, and all that goes out the window as well. Yup.
