He cleaned the powervalve, if he took the powervalve apart then it is not adjusted so it's not tinkering to make it work correctly. I did the exact same thing. I didn't have my manual yet so I just left it. Not tight enough the powervalve won't move, to tight and you will not have any mid-range it will go straight to the powerband.

I just checked, my manual. I does describe some sort of set-up, but it is pretty vague. I cannot be arsed to do it now, I will do it another day. Wayy to cold out side!

I don't care if you do it now or not. I want your bike to run as good as it can so I was just making sure you aware that it needs adjusted. If you can find the number of turns then it is to easy to adjust.

The only thing I can see that you missed is that you should have mentioned to tighten the base and head nuts at 1 turn at a time in a star or criss-cross pattern. Just tightening them to spec going in a circle will warp the head and/or the case or cylinder.

Hey 92, great post.  As a total newb I found it very interesting and useful.  Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do this job as it was your first time?

If I had all the parts in front of me, I reacon I could have done it in less than a day. But for I spread it out over a few weeks!

although my name isnt 92 but to answer your question spider, my first time doing it took me about 2 hours because i wanted to be precise and make sure i did everything exactly.  a person could easily do an entire top end including stripping it down and rebuilding it within half an hour though.
