although my name isnt 92 but to answer your question spider, my first time doing it took me about 2 hours because i wanted to be precise and make sure i did everything exactly.  a person could easily do an entire top end including stripping it down and rebuilding it within half an hour though.

I've got a feeling I will be a long way from being "a person" the first time I need to do it!!!

Thanks for the added info Elk... Whenever I wrench it always takes me longer than I think it should.

If you have everything ready to go like baggies sitting out and labeled to put parts in and once you get to work you can fly through it because everything is ready. All you need to do is take gas tank off, drain coolant, disconnect tubes from radiator, 4 screws hold head on, 1 bolt on powervalve,  4 screws hold cylinder on. Thats it. If you completely disassemble the powervalve and clean it like your supposed to then it will take longer but if you skip that step then it doesnt't really take that long.

I LOVE THAT BAGGIE IDEA... I am always putting crap down and forgetting where I put it!
I am also still learning what everything is called, which is one of the reasons I liked this post.  92 named the parts, and left his wrench on the part for the pics so I could see what he's talking about.  I also like it when he uses the red arrow to point things out.

I'm old.  Teenagers are great.  Shhhh... don't tell my kids I said that

What app do you use to draw the arrow on your existing pics 92?  Photoshop??

Elk is right. I'v got lackaeaisioal and lost stuff and forgot stuff, Forget to check stuff and only took a half hour lol.
A good habit is set out a white sheet. tools on one side and parts on the other. New on top, old on bottom! A full top end should take a hour. Alot of that is inspecting.

RM - Cheers, it is pretty easy to do, as long as you have a manual. Need any help, don't be afraid to ask!

Sully - Thanks, it should be great it took me like an hour to write the whole thing up properly!

Well... nothing yet. Im just going to JB Weld it. I have discovered it ain't such a big deal now, becaiuse the whole, is just on top of the threads. I could leave it as is, and it wouldn't leak coolant.

What did you do about that hole 92?

I fixed it with some stuff similar to JB Weld.. but it seemed better. Because it sets within 20 mins!

And I installed my newly oil air filter.

this is a great post im about to try my first top end i decided and will be using this along with my manual for refference. 2 questions is there anypart of this what will differ from a stock top end in the manual to the big bore on my bike? also i was told that when you start a bike after a top end change to run at a steady rpm durring break in and not rev it at all. fact or fiction? this post should stay at the top it can help out alot of first timers.
