In Terms of maintenence the 2-stroke is the best but in terms of performance the 4-stroke owns the 2-stroke. Ride Red

most people who have any knowledge or minimal experiance with dirt bikes can ride a two stroke. but you have to be really good and talented to ride a two stroke to its potential. and it is probably impossible to ride a two stroke to its potential unless you are james, chad or ricky. well, atleast with full size bikes. im not talking about smaller sized bikes.

4-strokes have a reserve.....
My friend rob has a 2-stroke and we were ridin in the woods about 2 miles from my house and he ran out of gas.  So i had to tow him(i was ridin my dads polaris because by bike carbs leakin)back and while i was towing him there was some slack in the tow rope and it got under his front wheel.  When i gave it gas it picked up and fliped him.

are you talking about reserves on gas tanks? and not just four strokes have them. mostly all bikes have them. and i cant think of a bike that i have seen that doesnt have one.

I deff. prefer the two stroke b/c of the low maintenance of it and the quick throttle response and weight.

you wont normally foul a two stroke's plug if you have your bike jetted correctly and you know how to start your bike. i dont remember the last time that i fouled a plug. it isnt really that much of an importance. i just went riding this weekend for three days and neither me or my dad fouled a plug on our bikes. and just to let you know, mixing gas only takes a min. i cant believe you would even complain about that. a five year old could figure out how to mix gas. you can make any bike dependable, it just depends on how well you take care of your bikes. if your bike is a piece of junk, then it is going to run like a piece of junk and most likely break down. but if you take care of your bike then you aren't going to have many problems.

well the real old school riders ride the big bore two-strokes. and if you can ride an open class bike fast and smooth, then you have some balls to do that.

I've been staying out of this one but I can't stand it any longer...

Here are the facts, I've said this EVERYTIME this topic has come up... Any type of race bike that you buy is going to require a lot of wrench time.  A nascar team doesn't just takes there car back to the shop after a Sunday of racing, toss some fuel in the tank, and go back out on the track next Sunday.  With hi-performance, comes high maintanence.  The new 4strokes are awesome bikes without a doubt, but they require a lot more wrenching and are way more complicated and expensive then a 2stroke due to all the internal parts.  Is it worth it?  When the only 2strokes on the Nationals right now are the Kawasaki guys, that should tell you something.  On the flip side, Supercross was dominated by 2strokes.  4 strokes are going to go through valves fast.  2 strokes are going to go through pistons and rings fast.  Yes you have to mix the 2 strokes fuel, but is that really so hard to do like some people think?  The fact of the matter is ANY race bike you buy is going to require a ton of work if you want it to last and get the most out of it.  They both have advantages and disadvantages, you just need to find out which one suits you.  I don't think one is better then the other.

Secondstringallstar says this every time and he says it perfectly! I am also sooo sick of these topics. and I hate when some people get on these forums and say stuff that they don't know if it is even right.
