4-strokes all the way! they don't need as much top end near as often as 2-strokes and i think there're a hole lot easier to start. plus, all the top pro racers r ditching their 2-strokes and getting 4's.

Maktbp:
TWO STROKES! Two Strokes are much better in dirt bikes. NOTHING CAN COMPARE! Unlike atvs where 4 strokes rule and 2 don't compete. There is a huge misconseption that 4 strokes have minimal maitance(oil, air filter.) When the the reality is they are much more complicated and more mataince. Examle four strokes need top ends more frequently almost 2x as often as a 2 stroke and they are much more expensive and difficult to rebuild, they need valve adjustments frequently. As far as mixing oil goes I can buy alot of mixing oil with the $1,500-2,000 i'll save on a new bike. As far as 2 stroke topends go you can do 1 in less than 90 minutes if your expierenced when 4 strokes are much longer with valves system. Two Strokes for EVER!

That is a bunch of bogus *** that thumpers need top ends 2x as often. WRONG! 2 strokes need top ends 2x as often. iv owned a couple of each. the valves need done after break in and 1 time a year after that. Change the oil every 3 rides and clean the airfilter and your done. 4 strokes DONT take more maintenace. Not even close to as much. What are you talking about. A 4 stroke can go 2 years on stock parts. Thats motocross 4 strokes also.

Honda250rider: 4-strokes all the way! they don't need as much top end near as often as 2-strokes and i think there're a hole lot easier to start. plus, all the top pro racers r ditching their 2-strokes and getting 4's.
you are f'ing retarded. they are ditching them because the companies like honda and yamaha make more money from parts for 4 strokes, so they make the pro racers use the 4 strokes so that people will buy 4 strokes. the pros dont have a choice. all they get to choose is who they want to sign with. and most of them are on factory rides and the factory is going to make them use the 4 stroke.
the 2 stroke is a much better motocross bike. DR did a test to find the best mx bike. they tested a 250f, 250f big bore kit 290, 250t, and 450f. this is how they ranked. 250t was first, second 450f, third was the 290f, and finally the 250f.
the 250t is just as powerful as the 450f but the 250t is way more nimble and handles better. DR said that all the pros that were involved in there test like the 2 strokes power more and they could also controll the bike better because it had a lighter feel to it while the 450 felt heavy and uncontrolable.
