I recommend caution with those hoedunk hillbilly cracks, It just so happens that I fall under that demograhic catogory They are very forgiving but I wouldnt go as far as to say that "EASY" there is still a great deal of physical demand on controling that much power, and if you open it all the way and go thru the gears there is enough power to get you over jumps and obstackles at break neck speeds. I also think that it is important to remember that shifting is just as important and gear selection also becouse even though there is more power if your totaly off on gear selection your going to look like a turd when you eat it on the climb or going over the jump. I also would ask that you never compare my CRF250R to a atv again becouse thats just mean!!!

Go sweetie, Its your birthday,..............Preach it! Although the atv was alittle harsh. I did have a 4 stroke. Although it was a old one. it was Alot easyer to ride . Shifting into a corner when there is a hill right after ect... Is alot easyer because the 4 dosent hit its rev max as fast and you have the power to get out of the corner and on the hill before you have to up shift. As the two stroke you need to shift out of the corner risking wheel spin and then again on the hill ect...And although i can see the argument of the 250f in the woods. i cant wrap my mind around a 450f in close quarters when the snap power and light agile bike of the 2 stroke is what is called for all day. A 450f in ( my ) opinion is fun factore 0 in the woods. And although iv seen a couple 450 on the GNCC course they are still running the 250 two s. there is a good reason for that!

hey guys i havent been on in a while but yeah in bored but anyways i ride a yamaha yz250 and i bike feels so light andi know its like 211 or something like that and the 450's are not to much heavier but with teh 4 strokes i think that people think they are heavier because they are soo top end heavy with a 2 stroke they just feel so much ligher because they are not a topend heavy

I ride a 06YZ250 as well. And yes they are 211 dry. The 450f IS heavier. Not just the feel. And 10 pounds is huge when your in the tight spots and man handeling your bike around rocks and trees in 1st. do that with a big ass 450f and it will heat up and stall and zap all your energy trying to muscle it through the spot then when it stalls, pushing it out of the spot, then kicking the crap out of it to get it to fire again. And you can feather that clutch all you want. IT WILL STALL at really low rpms if its hot and in a tight spot. Anyways wecome back. And what year is your YZ. And i see your name is honda. So i asume you had one. And why the switch?

I think that your right about the really tight spots point, I had a couple of real bad experiences when my bike got hot and I killed it on a climb right at the crest and I tryed to start it and wore myself out. I think that the two strokes do have the advantage cc-cc but four strokes are larger and as long as its a 250f the weight isnt a noticable point. I think that the issue with the 10 pounds for the average man 160-190 cant tell 10 lbs in any measure over 100 so it really becouse you cant really feel 10 extra.

YA the 4 has its advateges on the track. And on a 250f you can rip it in the woods. and not have a waight factore give you a prob. But a 250f is a 125 2 stroke. with great easy throttle responce. Better yet ... Prodickable throttle responce. Yet a NEW yz will give you the the power And light waight and tracking that you need in those spots. AND still have the power band and top end to get you out front on flatter roads. A 450f cant give you the OPTION to do both.THATS A FACT! Thats why i like the 250 two stroke. IT can win on the track, And is still the best trail bike. When i buy a bike at almost 7000$ I want a bike that can do anything i ask of it. Weather i stick to the woods or put it on the track. And bottom line is the fastest lightest 2 stroke ever made. And thats the YZ250 or 125!!!!!!

Your right about all the winners are running two strokes in GNCC style racing. It should also be counted that in that form of racing the 250(T) competes against the250(f) which isnt a fair comparason becouse the (t) is basicly twice the engine and the 450(F) is obviously just to heavy to man handle in those conditions

Dude like pro M/C is open cc so you can get out there on any sized bike its the one's that have skills that come in first in the pro class.

Not to bust heads here by it does not take neer as much riding skill to ride a four stroke as it does to ride a two stroke.

you can ride with poor riding skills on a four stroke because its forgiving. a two stroke is not forgiving make a mistake and you could end up hurt bad. expeclly when racing a 479 cc two stoke

ITS FAIR!! its in the woods!!!!! yOU CAN RUN A 250 TWO STROKE OR A 450F. Thats FAIR>> The best choose a 250 two stroke. What was so cool was jimmy got ty davis to run the ....UM ( YZ250 ) that the board built!!!!!! OUT of all the guys on this board would pick the 06 yz 250 to start with. says it all!!!WE ROCK!!!! sorry about the atv thing. they arnt like atvs. but in my opion they are closer than 2 strokes.'

i know that you guys dont think wieght is a issue, but for me only wieghting 100 lbs, i need the lightest i can get! and the tight spots can be avoided and over come, you just have to clutch the #### outa it.

i just want to know that difference, cuz in like 2 years or so me & my dad r gonna trade in our 2 strokes for 4  strokes, hopefully they will be lighter faster & better then. but if they dont make a couple changes to them im sticking w/ my yz125... if it ever gets out of the shop.

I am glad that you told me about the open class rule, I wasnt aware of that and could have continued looking like a goober spouting off non-sence. I think that has to be the coolest form of racing allowing anything that you bring. I do have a question about that 499cc two stroke. Why doesnt Honda have a super lightwieght tricked out 499 out there eating up those trails? I know that it can be done so why isnt it? Im aware that is alot of very fast acceleration and front tire lift and possibly requires a little extra muscle to control.

Why don’t they race 500 cc 2 strokes in hare scrambles?

Will I kind of fell in to my 440 my brother owed me a big chunk on change and he was scared to death of the bike so I excepted it as payment on the debt. First season I realized it had to much power! I could not get out of second gear for most of the races. The bike is a tank in tight course! In four years I have yet to see any one race a bike my sized. Even Bill Gusse says my brother must not like me because he sold me that bike LOL

I tried to get a 250 cc that year but that fell through. Been trying to replace the 440 ever sense its wicked fast one minute I’m hot in to it chasing some one when I get stupid and crack the next gear only to find my self off the course plowing over trees wondering what happen to the trail. I learned a lot of things about racing/riding a snap monster through painful lessons. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to get reed of the 440 I think its set up for Baja and I am toying with the idea to go do a Baja with it or make it a supermotar. LOL always fun to dream huh hee he hee

A 300 cc bike is the perfect size bike (Bill Gusse’s bike of chose) so my goal this year is to get a 2004 or better 300 KTM XC-W. its light like a 250 great for those long Nationals its fast for the straight-aways but nimble for the tight courses that Bill like’s to set up.

i guess i didnt think about how hard the 4 strokes are to start if they are hot but i do agree with u i would rather have my 250 on a trail than a 450 and i like jumping my 250 more that the 450 because the 250 is so light, and i use to have a honda crf230 just as a start off bike and the 230 is what consider a old school 4 stroke they r heavy slow and just tootle around on them and i dicided to switch because teh bike was too slow and every time i jumped it i would liek kill the it so i decided to get the 250 one of the best things i have even done bikes wise i love that bike
