they are all best in their own way. YZ-easiest to ride, is no great at anything but is also not the worst at anything; CR-powerful engine, hard to ride engine unless your a pro, has similar handleing to the YZ; RM-fast engine, accelerates the best, not much torque though, is set up to turn the best but loses high speed stability; KX-engine and suspension set up for long straights, turns the worst.

KTM's are a hate it or love it bike. They are completely different. If you go with KTM then get an 05 or newer.

SPEED_MONSTER:
which 2-stroke 250 is the best one out there from 2002-05.

as far as magazine shootouts from 02-05 the YZ dominated, didnt win every time but was always top 2.
i owned an 03 yz250, the engine was incredible, the suspension was harsh, but gets better the harder you attack the terrain. the handling was very neutral in corners but very stable at speed.
i've spent a lot of time on my buddies 03 kx250, very easy to ride and not as tiring as the yz. the engine begs for a PC pipe and it makes a huge difference.
great chassis and plush suspension.
havent ridden the rm or cr in the years listed, but they were all good bikes.

i would look for the bike with the lowest hours and best condition that fits your price range.

What do you mean. These are race bikes, they don't have kickstands.

You don't add unnecessary weight to a race bike.  Like someone else said they don't come with one.

all tracks that i know of require that you don't have one. as they can become hazards if the spring fails and the stand drops down, could dig in and become a pivot point on your bike going 40 around a corner. wouldn't be good for you or others
