The Green and Red sticker thing applies to California right now. It's an emissions thing. Basically, if your bike is red-stickered, you can't ride on the trails in the summer. They use them to restrict use of bikes that have higher emissions during the hotter months of the year (when we have the most smog problems). Different areas have different dates they become effective, but for the most part, it's between May and September. Most of the newer two-strokes and motocross bikes are red-stickered and even the new four strokes. But if they have an Air Induction System (AIS) like the new CRF450X and Yamaha's new WRs, they are green-stickerable. It only affects the newer bikes (I forget what year exactly, but I think it's '02 or '01). Anything before that is still okay... God bless the Grandfather clause!

That's what I meant by the Grandfather clause. It basically states that you can't apply a new set of rules to an already existing thing. So since the red sticker was introduced in '02 (or something), it only applied to bike manufactured that year and later. Laws won't let it apply retroactively.

Wanna talk about dumb... have you heard about California's "Forest Adventure Pass?" It's as stupid as it sounds. To park in the National Forest - anywhere... even on the side of the road to go hiking - you need to have a parking pass that cost $5 for the day and $25 for the year (or something like that). They keep coming up with more hoops for OHV riders to jump through.

lol, i haven't heard about that yet; it sounds dumb. we havent had to pay that yet, and we ride out in the National Forest a lot. well lately we have. at least there are clubs out there fighting for us though. i think i have heard something about the blue ribbon club. i think that is one club that is doing a lot. maybe im wrong. but i think cali is being screwed by the government.

Actually, you'd be surprised to see that it is the Federal Government who is giving us our props right now. There are a few legal press releases I posted on the site that have some really, REALLY good news. The first one (http://atvrideronline.com/newsfront/100_0507_ohvpop/) talks about a survey the Federal Gov't did reporting that OHV use is the fastest-growing outdoor sport in the US and also growing quickly in ethnic diversity (African American and Hispanic population). For that reason, they want to facilitate its use, so they're issuing a National OHV policy initiative (August 2005) directing forests to provide ORV areas. YAY!!! I'm just loving the visual of radical environmentalist groups having to re-open all the trails and lands they've spent the last 10 years trying to close down. The second press release (http://dirtrider.com/news/141_0508_ama_crash/) announced the passing of the Transportation Bill which will finance a new government-funded motorcycle crash study (good for street as well as dirt riders), and the best part of all is an announced $370 million (yes, million!) from gasoline taxes going to the Recreational Trails Program. That's going to mean more trails, more safety programs and more places to ride! And it also makes me feel better about paying high prices for gas. JT

Although this is an old posts...
basically red stickers are found on race bikes. My brother has owned a few of the WWR Supercross bikes and they all have red stickers. It means he can't ride it anywhere else other than the mx track.
