Hey everyone,

I have been coming to this site for a few months now absorbing the wealth of information that this site offers and finally joined the forum.

I have been riding sportbikes for 4 years now and am just now getting interested in the dirt scene. It seems like I have been missing out on a whole different world on 2 wheels. But, I am hoping to change that! I currently am in the US Navy, and just recently sold my sportbike (Suzuki SV650S) because I just got stationed over in Japan for 2 years until my time is up. So I have a bit of time before I will be purchasing a bike or I should say bikes. I am definetly going to get another sportbike, along with a dirt bike.

I have been looking at bikes and think a 125 2 stroker would probably fit me pretty well until I got the hang of things. I am 6'2 about 165lbs. Do you all think that I am too big for a 125? I have limited experience on the dirt. My friend had a YZ125 that I messed around on a few times, but nothing serious.

Anyone else ride on the street here? I am sure there has to be quite a few... If so, what do you all ride?

Welcome!  Post often.  165 lbs is not too big for a 125.  125's take some skill to ride well but thats also what makes thema great bike to learn on!

Welcome !!!! Glad you posted. A 125 2 smoke is a great bike to learn on and is fine for your size.
But still take it slow As they can hurt you if not respected like any bike.
And thanks for serving!

Hey man what base are you on? Check japanupdate.com for sportbikes and dirtbikes. 125's are predominate over here, along with 250 4 strokes. Then 250t's then 450 fours. And I think I have one fo the only 500 2 strokes on island. Its has a few slight modifcations to it. What base are you on?

Don't you people sleep!  Welcome aboard.  I had a lot of good times with the corpsmen I hung out with.  I weigh 195 and have a ball on my son's 125.  Some of them are quite tall also, you being 6-2 and all.
Tarzan would go!

Welcome to the board.. As a newb to the board myself, I can honestly say these gents and ladies really give good knowledge and advice hope you learn and share.. Since you rode a sportbike and would like to try dirt have you thought of riding  Supermoto..?? Where the bike has the features and looks of a dirtbike but is also street legal.. I know after I finish college I'ma get a KTM model they are the best from word on the Earth.. A lil extra money but best of both worlds just a suggestion..
