We are looking for your input on the Product of the Year for 2006.  Please post, in this thread, your nominations for products that were new to the market in 2006, or have really become popular in 2006, that you think deserve this honor.

Give us one or two sentences on why each product should be the Dirt Rider Product of the Year and what you like most about it.  One to five products would be great.  If you have more, bring 'em on.

We will likey use some of your suggestions, and even some of your comments, in the pages of Dirt Rider.  So let's hear from you.  Put in your votes, type up some witty and informative comments, and then go wait by the mailbox and see if you made it into the magazine.

I like the drive on bike lift, pretty good idea. How about dirt rider magazine? why don't we nominate it for product of the year?  good articles, tech tips, product testing, forum, rider tips. sounds good to me.

Dunlop's 756 front and rear tires.  I know they've been around a while, but, I've tried lesser priced tires always to my dissatisfaction.  The 756's work so well in such a wide varity of dirt, specially in Southern California where the soil changes numerous times on a single track.  They wear decently and stick better than any other tire.

I want to second the Camelback hydration system. It is a very well designed system that is nearly priceless on trail due to its ease of use and that it is very durable, handling the tortures of trail use and I personaly use the system and can swear by the fact that I have landed on my pack twice at fairly good ejection speeds with no cell damage and the strap system staying together under rigerous use. If you look at my signature you can see that I ride with one and that I believe that it is a very good product that can benefit the average rider as well as the high demands of the racer who is out for those long races.

I agree with the CamelBak suggestions. I use the 70 oz bladder and it lasts me through 3 hour GNCC races and then some.

I also nominate the Fastway F3 footpegs. Not only can you run lower screws in the front row of teeth, you can adjust the height of the pegs (stock position and 5mm lower). You can also add washers to a bolt and it will bring the outsides of the pegs upward so your  knees will stay closer to the bike. I use the pegs on my bikes in the lowered positioned. Fastway was a great company before they sold out.......hopefully Pro Moto Billet will be the same.

Guys,

One of the biggest things we look at (and struggle with) is finding NEW stuff. So think of products that are new during the 2006 year.

You can include your favorite things no matter when they were new, but we are specifically looking at NEW products for the article.

Jimmy:

I think Pete confused everyone when he failed to specify which year. He should have put "Product of the Year - 2006"

Thanks for clearing it up for us!

jimmy, while i was at lorreta lynns i met this guy who had this product. the name of the product is lock jaw. i was talking to this guy and hes telling me about how the pro riders (villopoto, alessi, and quite a few others) are starting to use this. what it is is a rubber net almost. it attaches under you helmet. you can hardly see it under there. while the guy was telling me all these stories about these guys who say the product is the best thing since the helmet. he tells me this story about a kid who was doing about 50mph when he crashed and the chin strap on his helmet broke loose. (he also dident fail to mention that it was a high quality fox helmet) the helmet came off and this kid killed himself. the guy said if the kid had his product on he would have gotten up from that crash. i looked at the product, and it was a solid contraption. its got alot of air vents to keep you cool. and you can even cut it to size! (wich doesnt affect its strength at all!) i was im pressed and next time i get 40 some dollars im getting it! this guy put on his helmet (with the lockjaw) and pulled and tried to get it off. (it wont come off to save your life. get it?) he even let me give it a try.  he said he sent it to you to test but i havent seen it in your gear bag section yet. i believe in this product and will put my name to it.

We have one and have been testing it and are doing a bit more research as there are not a lot of the helmet companies who want to have holes drilled anywhere in their helmets.

Always remember what a salesman is trying to do when they talk to you.

Try it and let us know what you think, we are always looking for input.

Jimmy:

If you have to drill holes in your helmet to install this product, doesn't that alter the structural integrety of the helmet's shell? I don't know of many Safety Equipment mfgs who encourage modification of their product by an end user.

My problem is figuring out new (2006) products.  Ones I thought of after checking actually were out in 2004/2005.

I'll keep thinking.
