Sha. What do you think all of the new sound regulations are for?

I heard it stated as, to protect the sport from protesting by communities and groups that are becoming upset by the the noice produced the sport.

The 4-strokes sound carries further and seems to annoy more people.  My '06 YZ250 is a lot quieter sounding than my 4-stroke was.  Even my wife noticed and mentioned she always knew where I was on the 4-stroke (with a supposed "quiet" pipe) on our land but generally doesn't even hear the YZ-250.  I don't have anything against 4-strokes by the way; liked mine but just prefer the lighter snappier (and surprisingly quieter) 2-stroke.

Now a 2-stroke with blown out silencer packing/after market silencer can also be very loud.

Want to hear yourself go to an indoor SX; the 4-strokes make your head ring....

Unfortunately its the thundering 4-strokes that have drawn a lot of unwelcome attention to the sport...

Its the same concept of subwoofers and mids-n-highs.  The mids-n-nhighs sound louder but what do u hear first when that lowered S-10 comes down the street before you see him?  The subs(I've got one).  Another reason to back my theory is cuz i have a '02 Raptor w/full T-4 Exhaust and a '06 YZ250.  Can you guess which one my neighbors HATE?

um, raptor? what do I win?

On my CRF450 I do my best to be considerate of others also. I know it's a loud bike, so when I'm near someone who I know won't appreciate the noise, I'll stay off the throttle as much as possible and just cruise by. This seems to substantially lessen the bark out of the tailpipe to more of a trail bike sound. Until I find that magic quiet pipe that won't rob too much horsepower. It's fun to crank that throttle, but it will be a lot less fun to see more land grabbed up by bike haters.
