u will need a feeler guage and a basic understanding how the valve train works.

all of that is in ur manual.

u may not have to reshim but its good to set ur bike up and check ur valves before u pull the cam.

then u'll see any changes in the new cam set up.

hmm, now thats sounding kinda complicated. I just looked over the manual for changing a camshaft and it looks kinda hard, and the clymer doesnt have the best pics, maybe itll be different when the bikes all taken apart (again)

I have a friend who might be abl to do cams and valves, I will ask him if hes capable of helping me.

is this what I need? feeler?

I know this one says for a bmw but would it still work? are the sizes correct? bmw feeler

thanks.

MM, you want the most you can right?

Sell that bike and get an 08-09 crf450 and get a full yoshimura RS-4 full system and get a stage 3 engine kit from yoshimura.

^ thats not the point, why not just mod my 05 450 so it can handle a cummins diesel?  *rollseyes*

I love my bike, I like the way it looks and ive put too much into it already to sell it and start with a newer one. my buddy just bought an 08 rmz 450 (EFI 4 stroke suzuki 450) we have yet to race, but I have a feeling it will be a good one.

MM you haven't really done that much to your bike. Everything you have done you should be able to put onto the 09, maybe even most of the parts.

If you love your 05 then you might just die from love for the 09. I know you can afford it. Just need to open up the wallet.

I would probably buy the MegaBomb. The Hot Cam will probably do the most, but they are a lot more work to install. That $200 could probably be well spent on a good set of tires. Having the right tires for the terrain you ride in will do more for you than a pipe. Remember, tires are the only thing that connects your bike to the ground, their importance is usually overlooked.

I know I havnt put much performance parts on it... but give me some time man, ive only had the bike for 3 months and already put nearly 2500$ into it!

and eventually I will get an 09, maybe even a 2010. but I cant quite afford it now, I havnt worked in 2 months so the ol' bank account is getting a little low :'(

I do really want an 09, but im super happy with my 05. my mind might change when I race my friends 08 rmz 450 (maybe its an 09?)

atvman: I agree, I have a kenda millville sticky rear and literally every knob is ripped off  its NOT the proper tire for where I ride. the side treads are all ripped half off, so when im riding on the sides of my tires it feels like theyre flat because ALL the side knobs flex so much  the terrain out here is too rough for that tire, the mountain rocks chew it up like nothing.

Truthfully I would wait to get a 2010 crf450 anyways because the 09 is having some problems. It is a completely brand new bike, can't expect it be perfect in its first year.
