Metal Mulisha: I know I havnt put much performance parts on it... but give me some time man, ive only had the bike for 3 months and already put nearly 2500$ into it!
and eventually I will get an 09, maybe even a 2010. but I cant quite afford it now, I havnt worked in 2 months so the ol' bank account is getting a little low :'(
I do really want an 09, but im super happy with my 05. my mind might change when I race my friends 08 rmz 450 (maybe its an 09?)
atvman: I agree, I have a kenda millville sticky rear and literally every knob is ripped off its NOT the proper tire for where I ride. the side treads are all ripped half off, so when im riding on the sides of my tires it feels like theyre flat because ALL the side knobs flex so much the terrain out here is too rough for that tire, the mountain rocks chew it up like nothing.
A 450F is not a tire's best friend.

I usually just go to wal mart or the local bike shop which is expensive. I will have to check out the princess auto next time im in the city, I know my dad likes that store a lot too.

its a 450r, and I know, but did you see that tire? kinda ridiculous, and guy at the local bike shop swears by that tire, he loves it and hes a really really good trail rider. I dont like it and wont buy another, its nice in the wet sand/dirt/mud though. but not blue groove trail and gravel roads.
you ride atvs?

I ride both. I still have my 400ex, hence the name. That tire looked nasty.

MM to boost some power on this bike, I would start off by getting the PC header, but other stuff you can get are: -big bore -high comp piston -port and polish -rev box or ignition box -cams
Now if I had to take a guess it is that a PC full exhaust with a PC camshaft with a PC ignition would work really well together, o and you can't forget the PC high comp piston.

that sounds like a very good plan elko. I will get the pc cam and header first, and the big bore when its needed, or at the end of 09 maybe.
whats a rev box?
atv: what do you think of the 08, or 09 ktm 525xc. I almost bought one of those before I got my crf450, they wanted 12,000$ for it though

A regular rev box just ups the rev limiter a little bit and makes it smoother when you hit it. The PC ignition is like a rev box but it changes the ignition as well and i think you can program it to your liking too.

If its an 06 and up, I always tell them to get yoshi stuff but this is an 05 and he already has a PC muffler.

MM if you can find some of those cheap, I might think of getting it but if its between upgrading this bike or getting an 09-10 and upgrading that then I would of course go with the 09 or '10.

ahh, new boots make a huge difference. seriously though why do you want MORE power? the 450 puts out enough. is this race gonna be a drag? change the gearing around that's what i'd do. i'd get thepc pipe, cause that does quite a bit, and then i'd experiment with my gearing to get it just right for you.

hmm. Ive never even heard of those rev boxes, sounds like a good idea.
I am going to keep this bike for a long time, its good enough, unless my friends rmz 450 blows it outta the water, which I highly doubt. I gotta buy a sled this winter if we get enough snow, and a truck next year so well see how things go.
pat: good suggestion, I thought of that but wasnt too sure. what if I made my bike so it had a super high top end and just geared it real low to even it out? this way instead of hitting the deep mud in 2nd I can hit it in 3rd but at the same speed. and I got a new set of fox f3 boots when I bought the bike, I love em. and yes the 450 has lots, but im greedy and want more, you can never have too much power, right? I know itll be a little tougher to ride through the trails, but its worth it. I like to try some crazy hill climbs sometimes so I need the power.

yes. i think that would work well. i'm not sure on the specifics, but it would work i'm sure. have you thought of throttle cams? they are fairly cheap and do quite a bit for response and they are changeable almost instantly depending on what you are doing. i think they would be worth looking into. a rev box is a GREAT idea.

I hate the way KTM uses XC for both a bike and a quad. They should have some sort of way to differentiate the two. Anyways, I haven't ridden a KTM quad yet. I saw one at Silver Lake and it looked awfully fast.
