92rm125:
I personally would not get a tattoo. They look fine for a few years, then you get old, you go wrinkley and you cannot see them clearly anymore.

chudster:
I've had them for 20+ yrs and they are not wrinkly and still clearly visible.

You're not very old then! lol

What tattoo's have you got?

i saw a guy that had one that looked like his flesh was peeled back and instead of muscles it was robotics. you should get something like that on your arm but instead make it the internals of a motor like connecting rod and piston/rings.

what about the yamaha star in a circle thingy?

*jack alert*

me and my GF have plenty. although i agree the subject matter is important, it doesn't matter NEAR as much as the artist.

the reason they fade, look bad and become chitty looking is the artist.

bad tattoo artist is bad

for those tattoo virgins looking to get something...

1. look at his portfolio, and be sure to ask to see tattoos that ARE several years old

2. if you can walk in and sit down, leave. most good artist are booked weeks/months in advance. if not, there is a reason

3. if they have animals, food or smoke in the shop, leave. snakes and birds are cool, but would you want a bird in the room if you were getting surgery?

4. take care of it and don't pick at it.

felt it was important to keep the generalizations about tattoos to a minimum. shouldn't get one because "it will fade"? *tisk tisk

Good advice, but the human body will soften the edges in time.

yea it can, but tattoos, like anything require maintenance. every so many years i get my edges touched up thus keeping them crisp. also i stay away from very small, very detailed designs like tight celtic knots.

the ink an artist uses and how he does the edges plays a part as well. my artist "stacks" the edges which helps it hold shape longer, basically using a small needle to create wider lines

you should probably think about staying away from any product tattos...lol...what if they go under. Just a thought. GO origiinal and have an artist draw somethin up for you with some meaningful items in it. You be much happier, it for life remember.

or you can get the 199 across the forehead idea.
