Does any one have KTM Americas email address so we can ask for a bike? I was thinking we could trick out a 250cc four stroker so KTM would have a stock bike and a tricked out one in the event.

Superhero,

I love your enthusiasm.  Don't get me wrong.

BUT this is not the time to start contacting people until we've decided on a bike.  This is still wide open.  You want a KTM?  Great choice, but not the only choice, and not the final choice.

Everybody please give your opionion on this.  KTM?  Other brands?  Two-stroke?  Four-stroke?  250f?  250?  450?...  125?  Remember, we're racing for something bigger than giggles.  If we're going to raise money based on miles covered, we need a good and reliable bike.

Nothing's been decided because we haven't come together yet on a decision.  I want to hear from everyone.  Even if you don't plan to ride, you can be a key part of the build.

Please don't go out yet contacting manufacturers and checking interest.  We are not acting as individuals, we are a team - that became real last night when Jimmy gave us the invite.

This is a time to be excited, but also a time to focus our energy.  No one should be representing this team until the team has made a decision together.

Again, I'm not trying to knock Superhero.  I think it's great that he's already going full speed.  But we need to make moves as a team.

Well damn if people are not already busting my balls for contracting KTM about a bike. Lessen up people it’s not lets pick a bike and then request if we can have one donated! If you got the money to buy the bike picked then ok but if we’re asking manufactures to donate a bike then we ask all the manufactures to see whos willing to donate for the cause.
I picked KTM to ask first if you dont like KTM then by all means contact your manufacture of choose and inform them of the build and the cause ask them if they want in on the deal so we have a bike . dont be busting my balls because I am jumping on this to insure we have one.

Come on people lets see who’s willing to donate and then we determine their generosity. Lets not get picky here lets get a manufacture to step up and donation a bike and support then determine what model they are willing to give. Theres no voting here on brands! If you dont have the participation of the manufactures then you dont have a bike. Lets tell the big names about the build and see whos up to volunteering support to the cause!

Superhero,

I'm not busting on you.  I said before I really like your enthusiasm.

But before anyone goes out speaking on behalf of dirtrider.com, we need to make sure they're speaking on behalf of dirtrider.com.

Pete I did not ask KTM for any thing I just informed them of the build and that we are searching out manufactures to inform them of the build and the cause we as a forum where trying to put together. I am waiting on a return call from them and I well point them here to this forum to check it out for them selfs and see if they are in to it or not.
We need support its find a donator time now not pick a model time! If we have more then one manufacture who are willing to donate then we have a vote at a collective  and pick from those willing to support our cause. Really we should pick whos willing to give the most support!
If a manufacture is willing to give a bike and let our team use their support team at the event such as the KTM support trucks/rigs then that manufacture should be picked for their over whelming generosity to the cause!
Lets not get picky lets insure we get a bike,.........................

Ok people I just got off the phone with KTM he said hes interested not sure if he can donate a bike he has to think about it but he said if we are just barrowing a bike hes in on that. I told him we as a collective have not picked a bike so if he would like to take time to think on it he could follow the threads here to see how the builds goes.  I also said were not sure on any thing its all up in the air but that I was going to keep selling KTM to you people. We could get a great deal of support with them and with luck and maybe the jay leno thing get them to donate the bike to our cause!

Anyone notice a lack of replies?  I think that will continue as long as this type of shenanigans continues.

Superhero; you haven't followed one direction or directive that Pete, Jimmy, Cyclewriter has put out.

When questioned you get very defensive and generally offensive.

This drives people away.  This is my last post on the subject until I see a difference and some type of order and control in the process.

OK guys, lets just settle down for a minute. Picking a bike that the team will ride and the forum wants to represent it is job one right now. Seeing who has interest in being involved without officially asking them is a waste of time. I can almost guarantee you that whatever bike we pick, Pete and I will be able to secure it from somewhere. We do have connections, you know. We likely won't need a dealer to pony up a bike. Instead, we'll probably get the factory (who has deeper pockets and gets a marketing write-off for the bike) to provide a bike for free in exchange for the ink this bike will get, both in the magazine and on the website.

If, as I suspect, the building of this bike is going to be my responsibility, then there are really only four things for this forum to work on:

1. Picking the bike we'll be using.

2. Suggesting what mods we'll make to it.

3. Picking the team to ride it.

4. Picking the charity we'll represent.

Leave the dirty work of actually getting the bike and getting the goodies for it to me and Pete since we are in the best position to do so. You guys have enough to do with answering the questions above and then following through to get a team to CA on the day of the event. Handle it.

No I don't think that is what DL said Super, I think what he is trying to tell you is to roll off the throttle a bit and let everyone get on board. We still need to pick a "Captian" of sorts, I belive that Pete will have to coordinate things and then we can start picking bikes and team members and support crews and things.

I think what you have in mind is a great idea. I have dropped the hint a my dealer for a bike too. But I have held my peace until we'd gotten an invite, and now I'll wait till we get some things straightend out. Will my dealer pony up a bike? don't know, probably. But Its not the time right today. Lets get the ground work of the team down and start moving forward. Besides, I do belive that Jimmy said that Pete would start the "Official Thread" for the team. Just pull in the clutch and lets see what developes.

Not everyone can be on line all the time. I'm just home sick today and can check in every couple of hours, so....Let some of the others check in and see what happens. Then we can move forward.

The guy from KTM said he has 8 bikes sitting waiting now for his team for the event. He said he has them because the bikes sell out and the longer we wait the less likely well get the bike we want. Its nice you think we can pick and choose but the reality of it is well get stuck with what evers left. We need to secure whos giving us a bike and what they are willing to give us. NOT lets spend two months debating what bike and then find out we cant get it. dealers are nice for ponying up a bike but the supports not going to be like a huge manufactures and the picking slime to none sticking us with whats left.
As far as the write off the guy from KTM said its not as easy as that. He is still thinking on the donating part so lets not think we can pick and choose or well be finding our selfs riding a YZ285 again.

Jimmy said to “try and organize” “make it easy on Pete as he will most likely have to moderate the whole deal”  “start a new thread for the DR specific project, maybe Pete should do that”

So I made threads as requested there was no Pete well make the official threads he said maybe Pete should but Petes a DirtRider Employee we are the forum so I made the threads so Jimmy and Pete could avoid the implications or  accusations of steering the project,
If you feel my name on the threads as maker of thread is going to hurt the project then say so dont go killing threads with this “official” stuff. This is our bike not Petes or dirtriders were making it and so we make the threads that debate its making and any other topics pertaining to its building and participation in the event.

Not banned superhero but following direction.  It seems to me that the concensus of those who have spoke out is that cyclewriter would be our captian.  Now if he asks you to contact KTM that would be great but until he has heard the voice of the forum and then asked some one to do something they shouldn't take it upon themselves to go ahead.
