O ring chain or standerd chain

I was told that the o ring chains are more for street bike and that riding in the dirt a o ring chain is unnessacary. What are the advatages of an o ring chain verse a chain without the o rings? Which one streachs easier? My 450 seems to eat sprocket and stetch chains and I'm in need of replacing them. I actually have three bike I need to do this on. Last chain I bout was not an O ring. What are your thought?

Someone did a great post on this, If I remember fight it depends of the riding conditions, desert or mud type of thing I will try to find it.

the way topics flip flop there is no telling. I know that for desert and o ring deeps the dust and grit out.

oring chains last longer, if properly cleaned. generally they require wiping instead of anything slovent based. The purpose of the oring is to hold grease within the link and slow wear.
Technically chains do not "stretch" they pins and bushings actually wear down and it creates the need to adjust the chain tension.
I have been buying cheap steel chains for years. because i never seem to have enough doe to get a decent set of sprockets and a oring chain. I have to adjust my chains b4 every ride and depending on how hard i ride like at a track or whatever i may adjust them again at the ride.
if u have the money pick ur favorite gearing and buy a set. Its best to buy from the same company too because there stuff is made to work with each other. Like Renthal or Regina.

See and I was under the impression that the o rings would keep the dirt in? If its lubed the dirt is going to stick o rings or not.

So ML would you recommend a steel or aluminum sprocket? I will do some Hare Scrables this year but I not a serios races MX wise. My bike eats up aluminum sprocket and wondering if a steel one would last much longer? I don't think the weight of the steel is a factor for me. I usually buy Renthal.

Not to mention that i can't seem to keep my chain tight. After every ride it is loose again?

Thanks Socal! I remember reading that one. I think I'll try the sidewinder and see if I can't get more life out of their spockets.
Still undecided about to o'ring or not too, that is the question? LOL

Ya thats what i hear. I am going to try a steel one. On my KDX it doen't matter, but the 450, well its an animal.
For my race in Dec. I removed the Renthal Sprocket off my KDX,that was pretty muck new, and put on my 450(the one on there had hooks HAHA) and after the 2 hours it showed major ware.

either that or if you dont care how much the sprokets cost you could get one on the ones that has an aluminum center pressed in to a steel outer ring with the teeth being steel those are supposed to be good sproks DavidS

I have a DID o ring chain and renthal aluminum sprocket. Your gonna eat sprockets on a 450 no matter what and chains will stretch. You might get more life out of the steel sprocket, but your gonna eat more sprockets than a 250f and pretty much most other mx bikes. I love my chain, it hasn't started stretching and the o rings do their job well and I have been running it for about 5 months.

Tri-metal sprox by sidewinder is the best rear (5year waraty)and a steel front. Chains are anyones guess.
