im looking into getting a new bike. a 125 2 stroke or a 250 4 stroke. i know they are sooo different but after reading the article in DR about 2 strokes being more fun and riding them to their fullest, im looking into one of them. at first i wanted a kx250f because i heard great reviews and they seem to rip, also because to be competitive in my district i think a 4 stroke is the way to go, i have experience with both 2 stroke racers and four strokes (but not fourstroke racers - trailies) do i go with the 125 or 250?- i know this board gets this question alot but imputs would be well appreciated

(try not to be biased just because "thats" what u ride)

the 125 is prob.. not better than the 250 but money wise it is ur best bet...parts r cheaper and in my opinion i think the 125 is much more fun than the 250...but if ur racing and u want to be competitive go wit the 250....in my opinion i like the 125.....if u want to have fun ride a 2 stroke but if u want to be in the front i hate to say it but now a-days u have to ride a 4 stroke....

I RIDE KX

i guess it kindda depends on what type of riding you are doing(desert, track, trail....)i now when i watch the SX on tv the rider never race 2-stokes its always 4-stokes not just because i see RC or JS riding then, but because they make less noice.if i was racing i would go with the 4. but then when i watch FMX no rider rides a 4-stoke, its always 2-stokes. if your riding trails or freestyle on the track i would for sure go with the 2-stoke.

but this is what i would do, diffrent people have diffrent prefrences

good luck!

I want to point out that four strokes produce more Dbs than two strokes and that depending on riding area it could lead to more issues without buying after market quite exhuast. I prefer the four stroke for its ability to "chug" or slow speed crawl and its ability to run at all speeds without the worry of fowling plugs. I dont race but spend most of my time off road trail riding and have found that hill climbing can be done without the high rpms becouse of the "torquey" nature of the four stroke. I ride a CRF250R and think that even though its designed for track conditions that it works in every condition that I have put it into and prefer the calm relaxed nature of the four stroke power production over the high rpm power band of the two stroke.

Id say go for a used 125 first. Put down a bit of money to buy a decent one, but not brand new. Spend a year or so on that and it will make you a better rider. You'll learn how to use the clutch better, and learn how to ride with a better technique. Maybe in a year buy a 250f and then you can use it to its full potential. If you bought a 250f right now, you wouldn't learn as good of a technigue and wouldnt be as fast. Plus, 125's are tons of fun, and whenever you pass a thumper on the track it will make your day
