Okay, it's a weird title, but I was wondering what you guys and gals (especially the northeastern folks who are cooped up all winetr) do to stay in shape?  And how many of you have the Wii sports/fitness system?

Everybody I know swears by the Wii.  I've looked into it and I'm willing to spend the $250 basic price tag, but will I have to spend a ton more on extra accessories?  I know I'll have to buy a separate steering wheel and ski board, but is the basic system enough to get going with baseball, bowling, etc?

Has anyone tried the ski/slalom board? It sounds like a great way to maintain muscle memory and balance for dirt biking.[img]

What are your opinions on the Wii?

I don't know if the wii is good enough to "keep you in shape". Some of the games are tiring, yes, but I'd just get some dumbells and a jumprope. Maybe even one of those big inflatable balls to do core exercises on.

Are you trying to get in shape to ride or is the Wii for fun. There is no way the Wii will get you in enough shape to feel good about riding Hairscrambled. I have meesed around with it and it is just to stationary and no resistance at all. You need to have some resistance traing for riding.

hair i think that when they say the wii is affective is for people that dont excercise at all (obese people) idk that it would get you into shape maybe keep you from gaining weight but i dobut it would build any noticeable muscle mass.

i deliver fire wood & shovel roofs & do other odd jobs to make money & stay in shape during winter

No,  I know it's not a total standalone system or good cardio workout, but thought it might be a good additional component of an all around fitness system.

I have a couple of dumbells and a treadmill plus one 10 lb Kettlebell which gives me one heckuva workout!

For cardio, I try to do a 4 mile huff-n-puff walk four days a week rain, snow or shine.

I think that's the best worlout of all (and saves a ton of $$ on gym fees, too! )

I have all the junk that goes along with the Wii; the balance board, steering wheel, WiiSports & the whole Wii Fit setup.

And yes, it will definitely make you break a sweat if you play the hula hoop game on the Fit game & boxing on wii sports. After you do the boxing game during a good 30 min. sesh, your arms will surely be sore useless you are a boxer. It's a great system to build endurance on, LOL.

I don't know anything about the wii stuff, but I think you already have what you need there hair.  I use dumbbells to keep my upper body and arms in shape for riding.  The walking you mention is good too.
