they all have to meet the same standards in order to be dot aproved. whether its a 20 dollar helmet or 400. if it meets the required standards its safe. they have to be or they couldnt sell them. my helmet was cheap too but its up to all the standards.

My brother has one and it seems like a good enough helmet.  Just make sure it fits you right, don't want it too loose so that your head has room to move around inside it if it hits anything.

most of what you pay for is the name. fox, troy lee, shoi, ect have big names and charge big prices. i have a helmet made by WOW helmet company. its stylish, fits great, sturdy, and very comfortable.

Look for DOT and Snell 2000 approval. I wouldn't trust a helmet that doesn't have both certs regardless of the cost or style.

As long as it is DOT or Snell approved, your OK. You can wear your $800 Arai helmet but if you get ran over by a tractor, you will die regardless. Bottom line, as long
as they meets standard specification, they should be pretty good.

An expensive hemet that doesn't fit properly protects much less than a cheap helmet that does fit properly. Up and down, and side to side. So hopefully it fits well on your noggin.

AFX makes a high end, low price bucket for your "Squash". They also have a fitment chart on their site www.afxhelmets.com

See post, "can I get some input on a helmet".  Galaxcy Helmets and accessories makes the GLX it is DOT but I don't think is Snell tested/approved

I actually have 2 GLX helmets- 1 full face w/ tinted visor that I use for demolition derbies & I also have a dirt bike helmet.  I was a bit weary about buying an off-brand helmet, but have been pretty impressed with the quality & fit of both of them.  Mine are both DOT approved which is a bit more comforting.  They don't look too bad either.

I also agree with other posts that after certification, fit is definitely the most important factor... even the most expensive helmet can't protect you if it doesn't stay on your head.

But whatever you choose, I would definitely go with a NEW no-name DOT approved helmet over a USED name-brand helmet, because you never know what they've been through.

DOT approved means nothing really. Department of Transportation just approves it...To be really safe you need a DOT&SNELL approved. Snell takes all helments and inspects them before they aprrove them.

That was a pretty stupid thing to say truck. And I agree you want a good fit, Just like braces if not a proper fit then the safety factore drops by 50%. Dot and snell approved.

Why was that stupid? You think you're going to live forever? Pull your head out of your ass and give it a shake!
