hello,
just recently bought a kdx 200 for my first bike ..I live in the northeast, and have been able to get in a few rides befor the cold really settles in. I was thinking about setting up the bike for its winter storage.....I've done a bit of searching and have only found tips for street bikes and was wondering if they applied to the dirt kind of bike.....I guess my biggest question is with the 2 stroke engine and that is can you mix in that sta-bil fuel mix in with the oil pre-mix???
thanks,
chris durand.

I race hare scrambles so every winter I take my bike apart completely to the frame and clean replace and examine every thing I drain the carb and the tank and burn the gas in my snow blower.

i would change your oil and then proceed to empty your tank, and also run your bike till it runs out of gas to prevent any build up in the tank, carb, lines, etc., you can do what the smart guy said and do a complete tear down, but i live in southern utah (a warm climate) so i ride all year. good luck to ya

I Live in Oahu, Hawaii and its good riding year round. Some hot, some cool but everyday good for riding. I dont do winterizing but I still have to do the complete tear down about every 60-70 days to check parts valves, wheels and all the other little good stuff including fluids.

Wow whats going on, Im trying to figure out how he steped on your toes and set you off like that. I also want to note that its not four strokes, its jeeps that are like tampons. Real trucks have beds and v-8's.

Sure you can put fuel stabilyzer in your tank, but your better off to drain your tank and the carb and coating the cylinder with motor oil by pouring it thru the plug hole and strokin the piston by hand.

I've been winterizing both 2 stroke jet skis, dirt and streetbikes for years with no issues. Using stabil is a must, unless you are going to completely teardown and drain the ENTIRE fuel system...including taking compressed air to every carb jet and orfice.
If I'm not tearing the whole puppy down...drain gas to a low maintenance level. Mix in the minimum of FRESH stabil...it has a shelf life as well. Run the engine until you're certain the mixture has run throughout your fuel system. Shut off petcock first, then stop the engine.
Remove the sparkplug, shoot a touch of fogging oil into the cylinder, make sure you're holding the kill button down, then turn the motor over by hand or foot a few times. Replace plug and cap. Do not start again til Spring, or be prepared to do it again.
In the spring, drain everything, or add a large volume of fresh premium fuel only. After the bike is warm, run it through the gears, altering your throttle position constantly...this will help to clean up any stabil'd fuel that might be remaining in all the jetting circuits. While you at it, change the plug, put in a new one, preferrably iridium...I know they're pricey, but I get a full season out of a KX 250 without ever touching the plug again. I'd rather wrench at home than at the track/trail.
Good luck

DO NOT RUN A 2 STROKE UNTIL OUT OF GAS!!!!!!!!!!!
VITAL ENGINE PARTS WILL RUN DRY
NO GAS NO OIL!!!!!
Drain tank, drain float bowl, drain lines manually,CHANGE TRANS OIL, I recommend HP trans.
BEFORE NEXT RIDE:
Change spark plug, add new gas, should be good to GO.
