Dirt Rider Chatroom

Moderators, We need a chatroom for the differt forums or just one general chatroom for the members that are online. I am a new member to Dirt Rider but I have been riding for about 16 years. I love the website and the community here. Lately I have been posting to threads and asked a member if there was a way to get email notifications on thread I have posted to or am watching. I was told, "not that I know of, you just have to keep checking the "my threads". Is there a chance we could have our own chat? There is a wide variety of knowledge between the members and it's kinda a pain to leave a post, read up on other threads then return to see who commented on it. Just imagine, more members would join, maybe sign up for a subscription to DR Mag, if they new they could get instant help or answers from members online. Think about it.
Patiently waiting on your reply,
Brandon Hays

There is something you can set up. It is not on here..but its a program. Called Xfire. It is for gaming chatrooms..but I use it for RC. I am in an RC chatroom hosted by me and 2 other guys. It is voice, and type too. Something to look into. You can make it, post a thread about it, have everyone join it, then anyone who is online, can talk and share their info with other people with the push of a button.

I am not a fan of chat rooms, I like the pace of the forum. But for some it might work.

eh, i've got mixed feelings. the older people won't be able to get the hang of it, it will draw attention away from the actual thread posting, the thread posting is good because people can just search for threads and find answers without even being a member, or without posting a new thread or asking the same questions over and over again. also, with it being instant, people like me who have it on pretty much 24/7 and just pop in on my way by the computer will be left out completely from any sort of conversations.. but on the other hand i love my aol, haha.

The first thing that made me think of it was seeing how many guest were on here and how many members that were on. I had been reading post and getting to know the regulars. You know the "addicts, guru's, and enthusiasts". I personal messaged someone and had to keep checking on my messages while reading through new threads on top of checking threads I wanted to keep up with. I thought what better way to make it a true "community" by adding a chat for members. It would boost the guest numbers, possibly add new members to the website, and contribute to DR Magazine as well. If it ends up not happening or finding an alternate way to conversate with members than I'll just have to start a thread for chatting in the "general discussions" threads for patillac23 and others who want threads. I'm happy go lucky and easy to get along with! I will continue to support DR Mag by being a member and contributing to threads to best of my ability and knowledge. If anyone has a facebook they can look me up by email. brandon.hays@navy.mil

My only concern is unless heavily moderated, chat rooms can get out of hand very quickly (arguing, fighting, insulting etc). To be honest, I haven't seen one that hasn't.

Pat has some good points...its nice to be able to read some of the older postings and see what solutions guys have come up with and its always there...the chatroom would take that away and personally I think we wold loose alot of valuable information...I mean in time pretty much all questions posted get answered...sometimes patience is required...and mabye some reading of old posts your answer could already be archived...

I can see your point Bohay, But to be honest i have my hands full keeping up with the posts on board and my pm's. I can see how it would take the chat out of alot of the threads but then again alot of people like that, And we don't need 10 mods. But i'm game for a try if you cats want. Don't know it would really help the awnsering Questions part of the board, As it would just be another place to have to search through no? Just my thoughts.

Currently just stationed in Alabama. About twice a year my wife and I load up the bikes and drive 13 hrs. back down to Texas where were originally from and hit the beach. My next duty station will be down in Jacksonville, Florida. I'll be on the USS Doyle FFG-39 "Valiant Mariner". 7 down, 13 years to go, if not longer

There's only Dave & I, as of now. Maybe one day we will have more people on-board to help us out, but for now I don't think we have enough eyes on it to have a successful chat room. Although, I will keep this in mind.
