Hey, I just cleaned my air filters and I don't have any air filter oil, Can I use something else like just a little bit of motor oil, or some chain lube. Thats the only fluids I have right now.
My buddy doesn't use any kind of oil, just cleans it with gas, dries it, then throws it back on again. He looks at me like I'm crazy for using oil on an air filter, but we ride a lot of dusty back roads, and i'm pretty sure I read some where in here that dust will go through your filter easier if not oiled....

Your buddy does not know the first things about air filters. It is the most important thing to have a good oiled air filter because it stops dirt and dust etc from going into your carb making it dirty and going into the motor and doing damage. What the oil does is trap the dust, mud and dirt from the riding conditions and it stays on the air filter or it goes to the bottom of your air box. Without the air filter oiled the dust and dirt passes right through the air filter and right into your carb and motor, and can do some serious damage. So without an oiled air filter the air filter does not do much at all. Also to answer your question for motor oil and grease they're no good, What i would do is wait until you get air filter oil for it. A very good thing to do is to put grease around the edges of the air filter so when you put the air filter in place it seals up nicely, and it also stop any dirt that might squeeze through the rest of the filter.

and just to let you know, cleaning your airfilter with gas will dry adn crack the hell out of your filter. JOSH, when dirt gets in your engine you are killin gthe life and longevity of your bottom end and its gonna cost more in teh long run. Go buy some filter oil and do it right, its worth it.

i m assuming you have a Uni Air filter? Even if you don't yes you oil both outer and inner air filter. For the grease part you know when you put your air filter on, well the edge of it seals around the hole in the airbox, it is a good idea to put grease around the edge of air filter before putting it on.

I oil inner and outer, spray it on, squeeze teh filter and squish oit together and do that to both, let it sit for at least 30 min and put it on. you can add grease to the part that touches the filter to plastic
