This is the official Q&A with Dave Lodermeier (Dave_At_Quantya) and  Dario Trentini (Dario_At_Quantya), two of Quantya's US representatives. If you've already read the Dirt Rider web test on the Quanta Track (http://www.dirtrider.com/reviews/motocross/141_0905_get_amped_quantya_track_web_test/index.html) you might still have some questions. Well, we've assembled these two experts to address them.

With electric bikes being so new in terms of concept and emerging technology, this thread is an opportunity to ask the Quantya guys questions, and also for them to get a chance to hear from you and get your thoughts on the Quantya electric bike, and maybe even throw a few questions your way. Even if you don't have a question, feel free to post a comment of your thoughts on the bike here for the Quantya guys to see. Dave and Dario will be checking throughout the day from today, May 14, until Wednesday May 20. After that they will occasionally check back in, but these seven days are your prime time to get your questions answered quickly or make your comments heard.

I want to thank Dave and Dario in advance for their time - and especially for giving us a bike to test for several weeks.

Okay, ask away!

Taking an excerpt from the "GET AMPED" article on dirtrider.com, will answer that question unbiased.

"The Quantya bikes have real motorcycle components and build. They weigh as much as a full sized gas bike but hide their mass fairly well once moving. The suspension is 'real motorcycle' suspension, not a beefed up version of bicycle components."

right but iuf you get one can you go out & beat the tar out of it like a bike with an engine? it does sound like its a lot more beat the tar out of friendly so to speak than the Zero-X bike... which to me appeared to be a glorified MTB not to take away from either company just simply asking. as i think these could serve a great purpose for some people

yes i think you can ride this a whole lot harder than anything else available on the market today (electric), however it does have its limitatiotions if its compared to a 450.

Ok so I have a question...there are some mountain bike trails near my house that very specifically say "no off-road vehicle use"...would the Quantya bikes fall under that category?  I imagine they would...but i'm curious I guess...

i was curious as in oregon you could ride them in the national forest.. or what ever its called that they let go to waste & you can only walk bike pack or ride horses in to but they allow electric motors so the Quanta bikes would likely get around this.

i mut say after reading the article it does infact sound like your bike is the best on the market so far that i know of

"No off road vehicles use" if a sign is posted then.....yes, unfortunately, we do fall under that category. As stealthy as the bikes are, it is still considered a vehicle and you would have to obide by that.

do you guys foresee any racing circuts specifically designed for the "electric bike" ? I figure this will have to happen for it to really become a part of the MX world. We hae pit bike racing, so what about these?

I think its a great way to show how the MX industry does care about the "go green" attitude in poltics right now. It may help us gain a little more respect in society. I think this is a great idea, but Im jsut not sure I would just go out and buy one without test riding one of these bad boys. You think you guys will ever have demos set up for these in various states for your average joe rider?

Answer:
I do fore see the bikes going toward the racing. However at this point in time there are not enough of them out there to have a class. This is so new of a bike and so little of them have been sold compared to the pit bikes it may take some time.
We did just have the race against Zero with 10 bikes total and it was a blast. The tuff part about this “will be the lack of noise”.  I was in the race so I didn’t get to see the crowd’s reaction but I heard they really didn’t know what to think. It’s quit!! They can actually talk to the people around them while the race is going on!  This might be the hardest thing to face when people want to race them is the fact they make little noise. Most people go to the races for the experience of the sounds and smells. We have neither so only time will tell how Racing will work for these types of bikes. I would love to see AMA adapt us and form a class where we can race.
Thank you,
David Lodermeier

And yes we do offer Demo's through the US. We are in the process of getting more reps out there to do so. Contact us through the web site to set up a demo in your area.

Like I said it really shows a lot of improvement within this sport and shows that we do care about what happens to or friendly earth....lol anyways, I really think I could get a huge turnout for you guys here in AZ, I recently started racing at a huge MX park and its packed during the weekends, I think you guys would ahve a great turnout. I'll definately contact you with details.

I think getting into the racing will do many things for the sport and our market! You get a lot of things from racing in the R&D that makes these vehicles better and better each year. That's why Ferrari is Ferrari and Hyundai is Hyundai! Hyundai is making improvements to getting into racing and you see the cars progressively getting better.
Among showing the world that Motocross is doing their part for environmental progression to better cleaner vehicles. These bikes are not there yet but you are witnessing the beginning of a whole new bike and market! What everyone thought about pit bikes was they were toys and they progressed into $10,000 124cc pit bikes on roids! And yes the biggest pit bike race in the world Mini Moto Sx! So there is a lot of hope that this will progress into this and much more.
Thank you,
David Lodermeier

Hi guys, thanks a lot for answering questions in this format!  Thanks to DR for the great reviews on electrics and for setting this thread up!

1) A few of us on Electric Motorcycle Forum have been trying to figure out this "freewheel effect" mentioned in the DR review and what causes it.  Is it something built into the drivetrain of the Quantya or is it the nature of the electric motor to behave this way?

2) Congrats on your 1, 2 finish in Mini Moto SX.  Many thought Zero riders would win because on paper the Zero X has more power.  What qualities of the Quantya bike helped pull off the 1, 2 podiums?  How much was the bike, how much was the rider skill?  I apologize for not being more knowledgeable of the riders in the event.

3) Can the rider tune power delivery on the Quantya?  I translated a french electric motorcycle forum were owners mentioned they are doing just that.  If so, is more information availiable on parameters?

Thanks!
