k well the shifter on my 2001 ktm 125 sx will not shift the shaft of the shifter just keeps spinning around it isnt grabbing the gears please tell me how to fix it

is the shift shaft itself spinning? or is the lever spinning on the shaft?

hmm, did you have a crash before this happened? any funny noises? i think your index lever might not be grabbing right, this is a triangular piece of metal attached to your shift shaft with a peg on it that conjoins with a wheel with cogs on it that connects through to your transmission and shift drum etc.

i shifted to low going down a hill and it made a couple clunking noises then the shifter stopped grabbing

you are probably going to need one. sound's like something is either broken, or stripped out inside. by shifting down at a bad time it might be something in your tranny itself which is not something you should get into without a manual.

Din't see your post MITK, But One Question, Did you use your clucth when you hit the shift>? And did you drain the oil to look for parts of metal?
