YZ125 2 stroke. There is no YZ125 4 stroke.

The only reason a four-stroke can beat a two-stroke is because of the double displacement advantage

a 125 cc 2 stroke puts out about the same power as a 250 4 stroke when riden properly. You need to keep the bike revved and in the powerband to produce that power and you also need to shift up and down ALOT more to keep the rpms in that short range of peak power. Powerband just means the rpm range that the bike produces peak power. On a 4 stroke the powerband is very wide and you don't need to shift as much. Like if you were riding and shifted 1st 2nd 3rd then slowed down a bit you may not necesarily need to shift down when you want to accelerate again. You can just roll on the power and go. With a 2 stroke you really need to down shift otherwise youll just get a long Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa till you hit the powerband again. A 2 stroke is a very different sort of bike than a 4 stroke. Because the power is all in a short range it can be volatile and do unexpected things. They have ALOT of snap which causes wheel spin or wheelies...Both very bad things when you're trying to turn lol
Anyways if you want a decent trail ride get a 250 4 stroke but if you want a cool bike that sounds awesome and shreds soil get a 125 2 stroker !! Just my opinion =)

You aren't tall enough for yz125 IMO...my son who is 5'9" has one and can't put his feet down flat footed...I doubt you'll be able to touch more than your toenails.

Your only about an inch taller than me and i moved up to a yz85 from a crf150f. for you in the 2stroke dept yz85 or kx100. if money isnt a big deal and you want a 4stroke than a crf150r big wheel.

The problem with being 13 is that he can be 5'5" today and 5'9" by the weekend.
Right now, I agree with everyone about the 125 being too tall, but if all the guys in your family are tall, you might outgrow an 85 very quickly.  Just something to keep in mind.

it is a big jump though if he could get on a yz125 its a gianourmous jump from a ttr125 to a 125. He can get a great deal on a used kx100 or yz85 and once he gets the hang of a 2 stroke and is taller then jump on a yz125. he wont lose much if at all any money on a used yz85 or kx100

Hey man, im about 6 ft and i just bought a 2001 yz 125 2 stroke..
But i have got to say i still like riding a yz85.

If i was you, i would get a yz85 or cr85 because even if u grow really fast to like 5 foot 9 or something, you would still fit a 85. And my friend has a yz85 and that thing is fast as hell to. It would be in 6th going just as fast as me in 4th or 5th but its really *** fast.

Get a 85 m8.
