Hard Times

The industry is asking us to help them get through these hard times by racing and buying the products to ride and race.  Shouldn't this work both ways.  We are haveing hard times also but were is the reasonable entry fee.

I just found out the the 24hrs at glen Helen will cost $400 per team. The 12hr was $198 per team.

I noticed that there were more iron men entered in the 12 hr this year than last year, up from 8 to 12.  So they are not suffering.

If they want us to still race they should give us a break.  I am tired of supporting an industry through hard times that is not having a hard time.  I am not seeing a dip in entries anywhere.

Most people don't race because it cost to much money, and I make less money than most people. And on top of that I am trying to us racing to save the world, what an idiot.

And is there some unwritten code that says Motocross has to be on Sunday, when I should be in church?

I am tired of supporting the industry, I pay to race, alsway crash, so i buy new parts to keep the bike race ready, and I haven't seen any prices go down to help me through Hard Times.  I can stop racing and then I won't have to buy as many of these parts and 2 stroke oil and levers and pistons and grips and tires and tubes and lubes and filters and gloves and bars and chains and sprockets and plugs.

I could alway sell the bike and take up golf and pretend I am exercising, like other men my age. I am just not ready to roll over and give up.  I actually am considering selling my bike and my childrens bikes to get a 4 stroke so I can keep racing, why?  Is it because I think I can make a difference in a world that is  focused on Self?

OK I have vented why don't I feel better, oh yeah, because I have to buy a piston kit this afternoon so i can ruin it at the next race, so i can buy more to support an ungrateful industry.

Please show me where I am wronge.

I pay $35 to race motocross and $10 to get in the gate plus a member ship to the track and race promoter.  $45 for 2, 5 lap motos, I never complained but I know the track and the promoter have to make some money but these are hard times to keep racing. I guess as long as people keep paying it they will keep charging it. I am at the point where I can't pay it.
I was going to pay $600 today to put 3 teams into the 24hr race to try to shoot a promo CD for the Autism team.  I was going to ask for $45 dollars each from the racers for gas and entry, only if they could afford it other wise I was going to pay it..   Now I doubt if I go at all.  Their loss.

Yikes, $400 per team?
Not only do you have the race entry fees, but you have to practice during the week every so often, and you're paying then too. It adds up quickly. I don't think I could afford the time or money right now to race. But I don't mind doing the occasional endurance race maybe.

Hmmmmm -  I commiserate with ya buddy, but all sports cost money and some cost more than others.  If you look at the bright side, eventually you'll stop crashing as much and then you won't need as many parts.

Also did you see this month's DR mag?  Pete Peterson writes about Marty Smith's MX school.   Maybe spend some $$ on a school to pick up a few pointers.  The private lessons are expensive but the group lessons might work.  I went to an offroad school a couple of years ago and learned a lot.  What I learned most of all is that I'm not half the rider I thought I was and I needed to practice more of the basics to become a better rider.

It's a great sport - much better'n golf!!

Even if I didn't crash alot it is still the same case.
We should race to support the industry and they should keep their fees high to support the industry.

I really agree, getting parts for my bike costs more and more each time I look up. I think this is because the market is leaning towards the kids who get their parents to pay for everything (who have large amounts of cash) and they buy a lot of it. Meanwhile many of the good companies have snuck overseas and quality has turned to s _ _ _. Totally ridiculous.

I even had a banner printed for the 24hr,  and no I didn't get DR's permission to add their web site but if they don't like it I can always cover it up with bumper stickers from 'Pedro's Tacos'

Dag, that is a very noble thing that you are doing for the autistic. How can I get involved either helping or promoting?
