Wow, what a day. My Excedrin is kicking in right now, so I can finally do this thread. I met Daggit, Alex (YZ250f4ever), and his dad, Brian, at 8am this morning. We continued on about 40 minutes to Rynoland, which is literally in the middle of nowhere. And boy was it HOT!! 100 degrees. Right off the bat I fouled a plug, 20 feet from the truck. Nice start! We mainly did laps on the outdoor motocross track, which was pretty sick (that's for you young'ins). They have 4 hills (jumps, really) that are crazy steep and tall. I've never been up or down anything that steep in my life, but they were all very do-able. A lot of elevation changes in the track, which is fun. Of course we were taking breaks very frequently because of the heat, except Daggit. That guy must've taken two breaks in the 5 hours that we were there. He is truly an Ironman. I take my hat off to you, Thomas. You really impressed me today. Not only with your riding, which I've seen before, but with your endurance. The Energizer bunny's got nothing on Dag. Alex & his dad were riding very well also. Alex was quite impressive for a guy who's only been on a bike 10 times. And Brian downplayed his skill, but he was holding his own for sure. Great guys to hang out with. I look forward to riding with you again, just not when it's 150 degrees.
After a while I ventured down to the WORCS off-road course. That thing is gnarly too. DEEEEEEP sand, twists and turns, up and down, in and out of trees. That trail will work you for sure. I had my 3rd crash of the day on this trail, in a huge rock pile, no less (maybe the only rock pile in the entire place - lucky me). Not too worse for wear, just a bloody, swollen hand. Somehow when I crashed my hand came out of my glove, the glove deciding to stay on the grip, for safety's sake. How does that happen? Anyway, Daggit happened by and came to my aid. Dag helped me out of more than one pickle today. A couple of times my bike stalled because I was going too damn slow around the WORCS course, and it literally took every ounce of my energy to kickstart it in that heat. Needless to say, my next bike will have e-start. Overall, I was not having a very good day on the bike. 3 crashes, and just no energy at all. But somehow I still had fun, thanks to the guys I was with.
On a side note, I'm seriously re-evaluating whether to do the 24 hours of Glen Helen. I was just wasted out there today. I don't know if I've ever felt so drained in my life. My fitness is horrible.
On to the pics. We had dreams of doing a full-on photo shoot while sessioning a couple of the better jumps, but that didn't happen. The heat makes you goofy and forgetful (and lazy). I'm bummed I didn't get better ones of Alex & Brian, but Dag looks pretty good.
Congratulations for making it through this long-winded write-up. You deserve a beer.

Here's a video. Brian is first, followed by Alex, then Daggit.

I feel so guilty, I didn't take pictures of anyone.  I was waiting fot the jump photo shoot that never happened.  Sorry.  The dirt was great.  I think they added river bed dirt to the sand.

I feel ya on the heat, it was very hot here today as well. You get used to it, just gotta keep moving (quickly) lol... Looks like a fast track with some nice high gear straights Jon, dont let this deter you from doing the GH race, just start running in the heat and riding hte bike as musch as you can and you will be fine. If you cant make a full two laps at GH, just hand the bike off and take a break.

Dag, you look good on the bike, and Im not saying that in a sanders type of way
Looks like you guys had a great time and my only word to you all is, JEALOUSY!

Thanks Hella,
Six the race will not be in 100+ heat.  (it was 106 here today).
And you hit the trails after a few crashes, that will wear you out.
It was just one of those days for you.
We will really have to do some riding out there when the day draws near.
There are trails like that out there near my sister in laws house that we can ride for free.

I don't know if Ocotillo will be cool enough by October. Maybe late October or November? But that would be after the 24 hr.

Isn't there a riding area almost center of us AZ / CA other than Glamis?  I mean a 9 hr trip for either of us is alot to ask.  4 1/2 sounds alot better.  Ocitillo would be 6 or 7 hrs from you.

I think this is the right place to say this.  What I noticed today is since I have been on the forum my communication with people has really soared.  As long as the subject is dirt bikes.lol
Seriously I am having a much easier time talking with people.  I guess practice makes perfect. lol

BTW The guy at the track today was Kat Shipley.  He runs several series including the world mini grand prix, where he placed 2nd in 450 mod.  He qualified for Loretta Lynns but injured his ankle.  I think he came from Canada.
