I have an RG3 upper triple clamp on my YZ. It was there when I bought it, so I'm not sure what the offset is. How do I tell what the offset is? I looked high and low for some kind of a number or code but found nothing. I patiently await your sage wisdom.....

I'm pretty sure there is something on the subject in the August issue of DR. I'll try to fish it out of the recycling.

There is a real good artical in August issue of DR on The Nuts And Bolts Of Chassis Geometry. Page 90.

You might want to read that because it can get real tecnical.

Quote: "Offset"
Is the distance from the steering axis to the front axle, the combination of triple clamp and fork offset.

This offset number is different from the common use of the word "offset", which is used to describe the distance between the steering axis and the center of the fork when discussing triple-clamp dimensions.

The offset number of the triple clamp would be less than the total offset since virtually all dirt bikes have leading-axle forks.

This is a little bit of the artical and I hope I dont get introuble for typing it for you. You might need to see the picture in the mag to understand it.

Yeah, I got dizzy reading it.

But there's also a factor called fork trail, which might be what you're referring to as fork offset. They call it trail on mountain bikes anyway.
