Riding With MX Boots..Anything special?

Alright folks, I need to know this. I went riding today, put my brand new Thor Quadrant boots on (eeek size 14...little long, but not to bad) And I can't ride with them on. I can't do it. I tried a few different things..and I Can't. Is there something special to do? I can shift into 1st, 2nd, 3rd...but then I seem to have mass issues going any higher. Then I always seem to have to keep my toes on my pegs..which I am finding a little uncomfortable. My problem is I am going from hiking boots, like running shoes, just stronger, to these clonkers. So let me know if there is a trick. I might take them back, and try some Alpinestar ones I already had on, but these ones were on sale. Helppppp.

i have the same issues, i ride 13's. I think it is all about what we first wore and adjusting to the boots and how they feel. when i first started riding i'll admit i wore puma's. now i wear a mix of my riding boots and my regular boots. i prefer my steel toed logging boots but i will wear the riding boots when i go out just to ride. it just takes a lot of getting used to Brad.

When I got my first pair, I thought something was wrong with them and that the person who sold them to me was a scammer. I was missing almost every shift, and they were really uncomfortable. But, after a few rides, I started to get the feel for them, and soon, you barely notice you have them on! Just takes some getting used to, and you can adjust your shift lever to make them more comfortable.

Yeah, I first wore New Balance when riding last year. I prefer my boots now, because I know when I have shifted. I might try moving my shifter up, to accomodate for the tallness of the MX boots. Like when I go riding where I do on week days, I will prefer MX boots, because it is very muddy. But like riding up north, where I just was, there was a few creeks to cross, and a little mud..but nothing that my boots didn't handle. I think I need to break them in as well. Might wear them some around the house..up and down stairs, up and down stairs, break them in well.
Maple..wow.

It just takes time to get used to them. Try to find a flat area where you won't kill yourself and keep shifting, working the boots. Eventually they'll get broken in.

Lol, I did that today. And I went up and down some small hills, to try and get use to shifting fast, so I can get into the proper gear. I made my self look like an idiot today in front of a bunch of people. I was riding along the road hit 3rd, and let go of the throttle to shift into 4th, clutch in...revved high..and was still in 3rd. did that 3 times trying to shift up as I passed them..lol.

ya i miss going into second alot. then i get really pissed and wind the hell outta first and then shift. ya mine were already broken in when i started wearing them.
Maple 2 guys down in Pittsburgh tried to pick a fight with me. they saw my boots and were like OH NO they're tech 6's, and ran like little girls. then i continued to walk around with 2 blondes because i was that cool.
had i been wearing tech 5's who knows i might have had to fight those guys.

Lol. I was looking at...Tech 3's. But then I found the Thor's, and they seemed to fit better. I guess they just need breaking in. They should loosen up at that point..right?

Yeah. Which is why I am just going to ride next time, with my boots on. That's all. So I get use to them, and they get use to me. It doesn't help that I am tucking my jeans into them..maybe I should try them on the outside..

MX boots are pretty much at the top of my list when riding. I highly recommend riding with them at all times. I have heard stories and seen pictures of what happens to people who do not wear them and trust anyone who have had their feet taken froim them that any foot protection while riding is a must. DO NOT RIDE WITH OUT THEM and just wear them as much as you can right now until they break in. Leartning how to ride with boots is just the same as learning how to ride, it takes a little time and practice but once you get the hang of it, you are good to go.
Hitting stumps, rocks, gettign foot caught between the ground and peg, smacking your shin, feet in spokes, twisting ankles, breaking toes or any bone in yout feet care all things that can occur when you do not wear boots. I hope this scares ya bit, its supposed to. If i can dig up some pics of my friend brants foot, I will.
