yea you need to break them in and having a good fit helps, the back of the boot is probably still very stiff which makes it hard to shift, you'll get used to it though. Worth not busting up your feet!

Yeah. Well I will work on breaking them in. And Mike, you made a very good point. Not to scary, but enough to make you think. Here's pics. Also, please go to my other thread, Back from Vacation. I am posting pics there of Jumping today.

Those were my exact first boots too! I liked them after awhile, especially after they saved me from many an injured foot/shin!

i've known guys who have broken ankles IN their riding boots from hitting rocks...i can only imagine what would have happened if they weren't wearing them.
like everyone said, just wear them around...i walk around my house in my new ones for a couple days to break them in.
my brother wears size 14 also...he ends up standing on the pegs with his feet slightly further back (more on his toes) than most people so he doesn't accidentally shift down. it's just something to get used to.

For a decent pair of steel toes here, I was looking bout 60$. I paid 100 for these. Canadian. Not bad.
Court, does your..or did your bro find it hard to shift up? And I need to get use to the extra weight as well. But, I will wear them around tomorrow, see what happens. I use to do that with new shoes..lol.

um...i don't think so...but my dad wouldn't let us ride without gear ever. if we weren't wearing our full gear (including boots), there was no bike for us. so my brother learned to use his boots as he learned to ride. i do know that his biggest problem was accidentally shifting down though.

Well I can understand his biggest problem shifting down. The boots are quite long, and heavy. But next ride out, I will just ride with them..weather I like it or not I guess. Got to get use to them. It will be sometime this week, so I shall let you all know, how it goes.

As everyone else said, just wear them around until they're broken in and once you get used to them you'll wonder why you ever started this thread. lol. FWIW I wear size 12 Gaerne boots and I ride on the balls of my feet all the time. Not sure if I recommend it but it hasn't done me any harm.

Smasher: Alright folks, I need to know this. I went riding today, put my brand new Thor Quadrant boots on (eeek size 14...little long, but not to bad) And I can't ride with them on. I can't do it. I tried a few different things..and I Can't. Is there something special to do? I can shift into 1st, 2nd, 3rd...but then I seem to have mass issues going any higher. Then I always seem to have to keep my toes on my pegs..which I am finding a little uncomfortable. My problem is I am going from hiking boots, like running shoes, just stronger, to these clonkers. So let me know if there is a trick. I might take them back, and try some Alpinestar ones I already had on, but these ones were on sale. Helppppp.

First wear them around the house a bit to break them in and get used to them. Second; you may need to raise the shifter a spline or two on the shaft. A good rule of thumb is the bottom of the shifter should be about level with the top of the peg or a bit higher.
What bike do you have? Depending you may want to look into alonger shift lever. We had to do that on my son's YZ-85.

I saw that Chud lol. Anyway Smasher, I have a pair as well and although used to riding in mx boots I found that for the price you just cant beat them. As dave said the best way to break them in is to Where them. Like around the house or even take a hike with them. There going to be stiff at first and feel awkward up shifting but trust me there is nothing wrong with them
