what exactly is a harescramble (im new to racing)

I'm new to racing but i wanna get started doing some harescrambles. what exactly is it and whats involved with getting signed up? I live near Pittsburgh, PA. And I ride a 2004 YZ125. I'm 13 and I would say I'm an average rider. Just some info would be great!

wikipedia is like windex, and duct tape it is good for everything.
Mostly they are a fun ride at race pace.
