Brand new bikes are great. But I don't know of anyone who isn't buying used, especially with the bigger bikes. If the dealers around St. Louis do make a sale it's always on a used one. Who wouldn't love to have a bike off the showroom but why pay 7 or 8 g's for a bike in this economy when you could have a heck of a lot of fun with gently used one for a third or even a fifth of the price?

True 735 but there is nothing like taking home a new bike. One that you will know everything that has been and will be done to it.

Oh yeah! My dream was always to buy a brand new cr250r right off the floor. Might have to be a 450f or a yz250 now though. I always felt that if I had it brand new it would last forever.

There is nothing like a new bike.. like POP said you will know the entire history, but you will always take it in the shorts the second you load it up at the dealership.. they depreciate very quickly.

I can only think of 1 new bike that I didnt want to keep forever, times change, bikes get better every year and sometimes the bike you thought was perfect for you just isnt..

Thats true, but you have to be very careful when buying used.

You wouldn't believe the number of posts where people by used and suddenly find it needs a lot of exoensive repairs.

Also, due to the economy; if you shop around you can still find 1-2 year old (new) left overs at a discounted price.

Good point dave. You can get a old NEW bike and have that piece of mind for a few dollers more when you factore in what the cost of a new top end etc...on some used.
I would still buy used of cource. There are really good deals out there. But you had better know what your LOOKING at, And not on E bay. Unless they are close enough to go ride and inspect (IMO).
And my dealer also has some really good used bikes. But I head right for the brand spanking new lol. And I want mine right out of the crate. Just no better feeling.
And Mike is so right. As soon as you load that bike you just lost 1500!
So you better really like it.

I'm never buying used again. There is nothing like a new bike and I have had my fair of bad experiences with used bikes.

For a bike to be in my garage, it has to be completely immaculate and most used bikes do not fall under that category.

A person buying a used bike has got to be experienced and educated with the whole picture if not, find a friend who is. There are great adult and/or resposibly owned bikes out there that have been taken care of, just need to know what to look for. Any bike won't be immaculate for long anyway, unless you just ride in first gear in little circles or something. A fool and his money are soon parted.

You are wrong my friend. As a racer, keeping a race bike maintained properly is a must. My bikes are ridden probably harder then most guys yet are kept in absolutely immaculate condition.

There are decent used bikes, often close to brand new ones, and most times they are close to the price of new, in which I would just choose to be safe and buy brand new.

If somebody is going to pay 6500 for a used I would say go ahead and go for brand new. What percentage of people who buy bikes seriously race? The places I go out to have hundreds of riders who ride for fun with friends and family, that is the vast majority of dirt bikers, and I can tell you they didn't spend 7000 on thier rides, and then 2000 more on mods. If the inner workings of someones bike is kept immaculate, that is great, so are mine, but I guarantee nobody's looks "showroom" anymore. No dings? No scrapes? Lord knows if I had the cash I would get one, but unless I'm racing "A" class, I see no need.

You have valid point, but I guess as a serious racer, my views are going to be different then the majority.

Brand new 09's can be had for around 4700-5200 this time of year, paying anymore would be foolish. Deals can be had on new bikes.

I do agree, for the majority of riders, they do not need the latest or greatest. But for a racer, having a new and tight bike can make a world of difference. This is something only a true racer would really realize anyways, and even their worn out bikes are still an excellent bike for 99% of folks.
