So I just picked up a 1980-1988 Suzuki RM 250 2 stroke, liquid cooled ect ect. Now this is my first time with a 2 stroke engine and I dont know the fuel to oil ratio. Can someone tell me the fuel mixture ratio? Also, should I get a gas can and just mix it in that? Anything helps.

Thanks!

Welcome Fito!!  yea get a seperate jug just for premix and as a general rule we all use 32:1. or about 4oz of oil to each gallon of good quality fuel.

What ML said! And get a ratio Right cup, And put your oil in the can first and pump the high octain gas into it and shake well.
Shake again before putting in the bike.
And don't get 5 gallons of gas if your only going to ride for a hour. Mix can go bad.
Go to a busy gas station and get 92 or 93.

Thanks for the welcome! So just so I have this in my head the right way, say I bought a 5 gallon gas can. 5 gallons x 4oz of oil per gallon = 20oz of oil for a 5 gallon can..?

It was running pretty rich today when I was riding it around so I'm not sure if it had old gas/oil in it so I rode it until the tank was DRY.

I really wish I knew the exact year of the bike but I couldn't find any indication of a year when I was looking at it today (probably because I just glanced and I think it may have a small oil leak which has left oil every were    so maybe I just couldn't see it.)

Ill take some pictures of it one of these days and post them up!

What do you suggest then? (In reference to what you said about not getting 5 gallons of gas) Do I get less then I take it?

Call me stupid but when you say 92 or 93 your talking about gas right? (just want to be sure)

This is why you get a ratio right cup for 3 dollers. And get a 2 gallon gas can.
Can't go wrong.

Thats good to hear and thanks.

Just wanted to add real quick that I was looking though the book that came with the bike its a Clymer service, repair, maintenance book for the Suzuki RM125-500, 1981-1988 bikes and I found that it says I should use a 20:1 fuel to oil mix. Should I follow that because of the year of the bike? or stick with what you guys said?

Also, I found this kind of random section where it says Model Designation. It has a list of years from '81-'88. So im thinking I can use this to figure out what year the bike is. The letters coordinated with the year.(it says "Suzuki letter designation")  Any ideas of where this letter might be so I can figure out what year my bike is?

I think what your saying with those letters and years next to it, you have to look on the steering head, normally on the right side when you sit on the bike, theres a VIN number, look at the 10th digit of that VIN # and if its one of those numbers its that year, like for example if the 10th digit is G then the bike's year is 1986. hope it makes sense and helps! and welcome to the board

Oh and fito, about that fuel/oil ratio rather go richer than leaner on it, better to be safe than sorry but maybe someone else on here has experience with that year/brand of bike, and they should be able to tell you the right ratio.
