So Windows 7 came out today, which means time to get a new laptop! I'm not exactly sure what I should get though. I don't want to spend a lot of money just something better then the 9 year old HP I have now, I'll spend more for a better laptop though, but I really don't want to get higher then 1000, preferably I'd like to stay below 800. What processor? How much RAM and hard drive space? Which version of Windows 7?
Intel Or AMD? I heard that Intel is currently a lot better. pentium or dual core processor?

Are you a gamer?
Do you do any Adobe related work?
Do you have uber amounts of pics and music you want on it?
Computers are built wicked fast these days, and HP between 500 and 800 dollars right now will do a good job with media and games. Unless you're a gamer, you should go with something a little beefier...

Yeah, I have an HP laptop at home - horrible. But the Dell I work on is great. On the HP that usually runs horribly, I'm currently using the Windows 7 RC edition and the CPU meter went from running at about 85%(vista) to 1-5%(windows 7) - A M A Z I N G difference. I think the minimum requirements included a 2GB (or more) of ram.

Windows 7..meh. Vista..ha.
I'll stick with XP. Once XP is out of updates..well..by that time Ubuntu should be able to take all the normal programs that Windows does..and I will switch to that, it's free, and much easier.
Then really..this wouldn't be a bad one to look at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114723&cm_re=toshiba_satellite-_-34-114-723-_-Product
It's good. Even decent for gaming. Toshiba Satellite's are good laptops. Vista..ew. But good laptops. This one is good for all around stuff.

my desktop i have now is ancient. i'm runninnin XP home. its incredibly slow. i don't want to get a laptop with vista on it then upgrade, i'd rather just go straight to the good stuff the laptop i was looking at was an HP with intel core 2 procesor with 4 GB RAM and 250 or 320 GB HD with a 16 inch screen i think. i'm just using it for daily internet browsing, homework, music, stuff like that, no games. i'd like it to last awhile and be able to do multiple stuff seamlessly.
also what virus and spyware programs are you guys running? i'm currently using mcafee cause i get it free, spybot, and the windows protecter or whatever its called.
