Hello Everyone,
I've got a 98 honda cr 125 with the aluminum frame. My engine is in need of a new top end and the cylinder needs work. Now from what i've heard its pretty costly since the cylinder is lined with magnesium or something of this nature. all the quotes i've gotten have been, quite frankly astonishing. Anyways, i figured for that amount of money i could get a nice 250 motor complete with trans an put it in to my bike. Now i haven't heard anyone doing this so wondering why not? Also, i love my frame and the nimbleness of the bike. Yes, i know the characteristics will change a bit, but why not if it can be done . Anyways, pro's and con's will be welcomed.

Thanks!

If you are a good fabricator it can happen.  I am sure there will be welding to do.

Do you know how to weld Aliminum? Thats the first? Not just to not burn through but to not weaken the frame. Its just easy to do to weaken the frame with aluminum. After that you will have to fab your mounts as well .
DC has done this and would wait for his respounce as well. But a Steel frame would be better when doing this in my opinion.

Probably be a lot cheaper just to rebuild what you have.
