On the trail its all rider 230 vs 250f. I can keep up with the 250f's on the trails and were all fast! She climbs like a champ. I've climbed 70ft hills that are 60 degree angles and all big rolling rocks, no problem.
Whats your height and weight, expierience?

I think you'll find the 230 gutless compared to the 125....don't get my wrong, I LOVE my 230, but I know the 125 is already much more powerful...and it's a full sized bike....going to the 230 would be stepping down...you would be looking for a 250f of some sorts, sounds like.

You will have more fun on the 230 in the hills and trail riding IMO. Go for it. And you can always pull out the 125 for riding tracks and having that different kind of fun only a 2-stroke can give you...

I bought my KTM 300 because I wanted two bikes in one, a 4-stroke AND a 2-stroke. If you ever go to just one bike, the KTM 200XCW might just be the bike for you. It would give you the fun factor of 2-stroke madness, but they have good torque for hills and tight stuff too, similar to a 4-stroke in performance.

I have a 230, and I ahve ridden a 125 through the woods before.
I love my 230. I have never had it bog down and stall on a trail. Gear one is useless. It's to get you rolling that's it. Gear 2 is the ideal gear for most of anything..in my experience. I have taken this bike to hell and back..maybe twice. And it's never failed. Literally..trails I can't explain. Huge boulders, rocks, all mud, wet, constantly off and on the bike getting it to move..it was fun.
I rode the 125 on medium trails..since I didn't really know what I was doing with a 2 stroke..and I found it fun, but I found it hard to make it through slick rocks and such..but it was also some of me on that part. Lol.
I would say either a 230 or 250 would be good. Or like Paul mentioned, a KTM 200, 2 stroke, but trail bike like a 4 stroke..seems just as good as bet.
I am able to keep up with guys on 250 2 strokes going through trails..often because I can rip right through some stuff on the 230..and they have to slow down and rev the heck out of it..like a hill climb.
Hope this helped.

Don't even consider them. It'll be a huge down step from what you have now. Get a 250f. They have a really strong pull from as soon as you crack the throttle till the rev limiter hits.

What you need is a WR250, CRF250X or 250XC-F. No way will the 230 outrun a 250F, 0r 125 for that matter.

if you can ride your CR, you can easily ride the 250x. The bikes brandon listed will be great too.

also when im hill climbing on a 2 stroke you have to ring its neck wich leads to burned topends, im really looking in to having it as a back up bike and play bike

I really really think a 250 trail style bike is what you want...like the bikes that pin_it suggested...they aren't any taller than your 125.

I'd take a mx style 250f any day over the trail ones but that's JMO.
