hello, i just got a used 99 honda cr125

i think i have a problem with the clutch, with the engine off and in any gear the bike does not roll freely , i have the clutch lever pull in all the way. so i took of the engine side cover off where the cable connects to the other lever , and pull the lever on the handle and the lever in the engine does move up all the way i think, dont know how far it supposed to go, put i also help push the lever in the engine with my hand so it does go up all the way, put the bikes still does not roll free, it just jumps a little when trying to push when in gear and of course with the clutch pull in the bike supposed to move freely right. and i have on a new clutch cable so i know it is not the cable for sure

now can any body tell me what the problem is or what i might have to change or do ??

thank you

You can try tightening the clutch cable, but your clutch probably needs replacing.

does your clutch slip when your riding it? i know that with my 125 that has a new clutch and it still turns over the piston when pushing with the lever in , which to me is fairly the norm

This is not unusual, the clutch plates tend to stick when cold while the engine is not running.  Try running the engine and warming the clutch up, then shut the engine down and see if you can push the bike with the clutch pulled in while in 2nd or higher gear.  If that works it is most likely cold plates sticking.

If you feel there is still a problem with the clutch:

-Check the free play at the lever/perch junction it should be a quarter edge width free play.
-check the clutch plates
-check the basket and inner hub for grooving this will cause the clutch to stick and can brake the friction plates.
-If the clutch is slipping with correct free play (assuming the plates are good) heavy springs will typically cure this.

Totally. Let it warm up and try again. Also, how much play do you have in the lever? Is the cable oiled?

well the cable that came with it was old and rusty, so i replace it with a new cable and still was doing the same thing, i know for sure it is not the cable as i can see since i took off the engine side cover to see the cable is pulling the other lever up.

well will try warming up the engine and then try and see if it will roll free

if i have to replace the clutch what is the price on one? and can anybody replace it or do a bike machanic have to do it?

YOU can replace the clutch yourself in about 10 min. after you properly pre soak the plates. If you don't have one yet get yourself a service manual or owners manual.

OK woods you got me. it's can take me about 15 min. And as far as what clutch to use. I would recommend the OEM Kit. It comes with every thing you need, even the O-ring. And the correct springs. Don't use stiffer springs in a CR125 it can hurt your transmission.
