ML I would call Hinson directly or send them an email with the pics showcasing your problem.  This may be something they have encountered before and give you a straight answer on how to solve it.  I'm not liking that small clearance between the gear and the hub.  That could end up shaving a lot of aluminum chips into your oil and thus grinding into your transmission as well.

I agree Bill, its not much room for error.  I did call Hinson, and talked with someone, but he couldnt figure it out and said he would call back.

That was a week ago.

so, I'm gonna try it like this and watch it carefully.

if it goes bad I'll replace it.

Looking at it I'm thinking you were given the wrong basket or its out of spec somehow.  I've installed a few Hinson baskets and never seen that issue before.  They have alwasy been top quality and gone in without hassle for me.  I would call them back again and remind them of your problem.I'm sure they are pretty busy right now with the South West riding season getting underway.

I will.  I'm hoping maybe KK has seen a similar problem, or maybe could shed some insite.

I'm still a little puzzled at the gear bevel and why its there.

It looks to me the bevel was put in for clearance issues with the with outer clutch gear.  The teeth of the bevel gear are tall enough to interfere with the connection between the outer clutch gear and the primary output gear.  Then you will a tooth on tooth problem instead of the teeth grinding away the smooth outer basket.  I would not run it in this manner.  My choice would be to solve the fit issues first.  Do you still have your old clutch?  How well does that sync up?

Wow.  I heated min up to 400 degrees in my oven and it came right out with a little force.  I cleaned it as good as I could first but it still stunk up the house. hahaha Then I put the sun gear in the freezer for an hour or so before heating the new one up in the oven and they came together nicely.

the one i have is not a press fit. it is put on with screws and loctite. The old basket was toast, so i just crushed it in the vise to get the gear off. i knew i wasn't going 2 keep it so at the time it didn't matter

I'll point him in this direction.  When threads get way off topic they tend to ignore them (in this case is it clutch issues or smilely faces...)

Hey guys, Sorry I missed this thread, but I don't have much help for you. I have only installed a few of those baskets, and all fit extremely well. Dave e-mailed me the link to the thread, and I would try that with Hinson to see what they say. The only thing I can think is that the basket you have is for a different year. I'd want more info before riding with that.
I'll see if Jimmy has time to look at the thread.

Well, so i decided to take all apart again.     I took more pics and i called Hinson.  I'm still puzzled.

At first the guy thought I just put the ring gear on backwards. One side IS beveled and the otherside has a shoulder, but I had done real good and did right.

Actually I was hoping I put it on backwards so I could just flip it and be done with it.

Anyway heres some pics. notice how even with the basket and gears in my hand I cant get them to line up without hitting the basket.

Yeah I still think you have the wrong basket somehow.  Maybe it was mislabeled or something.
