Hey guys. I have some slight grooves on the fingers where the fricton plates seat on my clutch basket on my 125 yz. The clutch dosent want to disengage very good and was wondering if thoes groves would cause this. Thats about the only thing I have left besids replacing the whole assembly. I will if I have to but if I could get a little longer from fileing the grooves it would be nice, plus I dont want to take it back apart agin just on my hunch. If anyone knows I would be grateful.... Thanks alot everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Grooves will cause this. Pull the assembly apart to make sure you did not shatter a clutch plate though, also, measure them to make sure there is no warpage.

how bad are the grooves?

take a look, they should be on one side more than the other.

Double check the rod adjustment, the cable adjustment and the free play

You can file down the grooves but the end for the basket is near.

you will have to remove all the plates to file the lands down.

while the plates are out, inspect and measure them, measure the springs.

you will notice the pressure plates have a warn step in them. Price out a cluth for the heck of it....check the book on the wear factors

I filed the grooves off and now it works good. They were worse on one side than the other, and I  noticed the fiber plates hade about a pennys width of gap between the ears on them and the basket where they engage and on a new basket do the fiber plates fit in with no gap at all?? I have a hinson on the way and im going to go ahead and put in a new clutch kit, fibers, pressure plates, while im at it. Iwas thinking about hinson for that too just to make everything match but does anyone have any recommendations for some killer fibers and plates. Im going to get something in kevlar unless directed not to buy you guys here cause I know someone here has had experiance with probly every kind of clutch fiber they make and experiance is #1 for me.

Most times I use OEM but your using a Hinson basket so I dont think you can go wrong with the Hinson clutch.
