hey all, i have a 85 xr200. this bike was a real gem when i got it. too many striped threads to count including oil plug. put it all together and finally got it started. have been toying around w/ this thing for 3 months now trying to get it right. heres my problem. after sitting for about a week the bike starts hard. once warmed it starts 1st kick. the big problem i have is w/ the idle. i get it started and toy w/ the idle and get it at good idle. i take the bike for a ride and it seems alright at first but then when i go through the gears for the 2nd time it revs way up w/ clutch in to shift. plus at 3rd gear it feels like the bike is getting throttle w/out giving it any gas. i bring the bike home and in nuetral the idle is way high. i kill it and start it back up and the idle seems fine for a min or so, then idle go's way up again. cleaned the carbs 4 times, definitly a lot of tarnish. the book says it could be a bad head gasket or faulty ignition. my dealing w/ elect is that it either works or doesn't. could be the head gasket because i had a striped head bolt thread in the cyclinder. put a helicoil in it and only got 30 of the req 34-38ft lbs of tq before the helicoil started sliping. i could feel the last bolt start to strip at about 25ft lbs so i just left it be. all other bolts have 30ft lbs of tq on them. no white smoke and bike starts real easy when warmed. just want someones opinion here before i tear the thing apart again. this is the xr w/ the dual overhead valves and carbs. thanks for anyones help.-eric
