I have a slight wobble in my outer clutch basket.  The service guy said that some wobble is considered normal.  When the engine is running and clutch engaged, I could hear some sound that is different when the clutch is disengaged.  Is this normal?  I was planning on buying a new bearing and was wondering if I need to replace the spacer that fits over the shaft and inside the bearing.  Does anyone have a precise dimension for this spacer?

Some wobble is OK, but how much is your wobbling?  Can you describe the noise a bit more in detail?

As an engineer, I usually cringe when I see almost any movement in a bearing. My basket could move almost 1/8 inch at the extreme edge of the basket.  The noise is hard to describe.  It's like a rotating rattle.  I wonder if the outer basket gets grabbed, slightly off center, by the plates and inner basket, which is centered, when the clutch is engaged, thus making a noise.

Well, I don't have a manual for your bike but that seems a bit extreme.  Is there a second dealer or mechanic that could give a second opinion in your area?

The mechanic did not look at the clutch.  It was only a discussion we had over the phone, based on what I told him.  He said that there is no dimension in the manual and no maximum amount of allowed wobble.  He said they all have some amount of wobble and it is difficult to determine what is too much.  I bought the ordered the new bearing yesterday so I will put it in the next few days.  It can't hurt.
