I just bought a 01 yz426 about a year ago and before I bought it the previous owner had the top end rebuilt and I talked to the mechanic that rebuilt it and he said the valves were fine, should I check to see if the valves need adjusting now?

Unless you hit the rev limiter alot I wouldn';t worry until they get noisy.
