Man, those courses are tough. Poor Pete takes such a ribbing. I like that he represents "everyman". Good job, Pete.

Yeah, they are tough - I think I would have to go "wee wee" before too, except I might be found hiding in the restroom. Restroom = correct term for this situation, resting area before you're about to get dominated by logs, rocks and tires.

You know there's really nowhere to practice these kinds of obstacles, besides riding in the forest I guess. I think it would be cool if one of the moto tracks would setup a small EX area, with tires, logs, etc. If anyone could do it, Pala could.

Lots of practice areas up here JP...

Sounds to me like you've never ridden with a chainsaw strapped to your bike!

Six, some off-road acquaintances of mine actually are building a private track to practice because they're so obsessed with EnduroX and planning to race come 2010.

Pete is my hero now! Seeing anyone other than a expert rider on that track shows how hard it really is.

This should be a regular video segment called Pete Rides... and have him trying out all kinds of difficult obstacles that look easier on TV. I say stick him on a trials bike next and point him at some boulders. LOL

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I'm glad people have fun watching me represent the mortal rider. I really believe every EX event should start with someone like me - a regular rider - attempting the track. Really let the casual observer understand how talented the top guys really are as they race over those obstacles.

I was really nervous for that ride. I was nervous for days before that, and I'm not kidding.

I never would have been able to do that without some of the tips I learned taking a class with Mike Lafferty. We looked at these logs in the morning out at the riding area back in Virginia that I knew I would never get over, and he had me doing them comfortably by the end of the day. A little momentum, getting the front wheel up to hit the top half of the log, and a little blip of throttle. Then a lot of practice going for bigger and bigger logs. Also note those huge logs on the EX course have dirt built up to them, which makes that easier. Almost creates a wheelie effect even if you don't... sort of.

I don't think you need anything elaborate to practice EX, just a log or two to learn the technique. Bring patience and Band Aids - and leave the jokers with the video cameras at home!

Oh, and all that's required to join the Pete Peterson fan club is to send a letter to drmail@sorc.com requesting that Jimmy puts me on a cover! Now THAT would be a victory for the average-ability rider!

Great job Pete, I envy you for even getting to have a chance to do that. It is one of those things you just cant pass up, even if you are scared. Good job. I am emailing DR right now for your cover shot. lol
