If the bore is in rough shape you'll need to have the bore replated with the stock-type Nikasil coating. There are a variety of companies that offer that service. Look at the ads in the back Dirt Rider for a company in your area. You can also have the cylinder sleeved with a steel sleeve, but the KTM was designed for a plated bore. If you do decide on a sleeve, LA Sleeve is a great source.

The cylinder walls are fine I don't think it needs to be re-sleeved, however the bike itself is a little rough around the edges (any maintenance suggestions for a bike that has been sitting and poorly maintained? things I should look for or be aware of?). Im just not sure how to tell what size bore I have and which top end rebuild kit is suitable for my bike.

You will just need to order a standard bore kit for an 03 125sx. Or are you referring to whether or not it's an A or B cylinder?

if your doing the top end you might as well have the cyliner honed (20-30 bucks) just take it in to your local dealership and when they hone it have them measure the bore and order the correct piston right there. they will usually do this extra stuff for free. that way if your cylinder is out of spec they can order the correct piston/ ring combo to make the best fit. get the cylinder, piston, rings and everything back at the same time and your ready to go. plus you know everything will fit right. pays to take it safe dont want to have more problems down the road.

ask around to people who ride in your area to find the best most honest dealer around. there is only one dealership around here i wouldnt trust the other 5-6 i would believe in a heart beat.

i have a trusted machine shop, however the dealerships in my area aren't the greatest not to mention expensive. im trying to avoid spending a lot of money at the dealership when i can hone it myself (re-sleeving is another story), im trying to find out how to measure the bore thats why im on the forum seeing if anyone might know. i have a dial caliper to measure it but how do i know what size piston to get vs how much space to allow

racing shopping carts in the wal mart parking lot does not qualify you for a tech thread.
