250 or 450?

I've been ridding for about 11 years. Currently, I ride a CRF 250x. the weight is similar to the crf 450r bike. I was looking to cross back over to the motocross bikes opposed to the trail bikes because i like the more lively throttle response and lighter/more nimble chassis.
Between a 450 and a 250, which do ya'll think would be most appropriate for me? The use would be primarily cross country, trails, enduro. I end up on the track occasionally.

Do you feel the power on your crf 250x is adiquate? I would try riding both bikes and make my decision then. But, I usually roll with more is better lol

In wide open spaces I like the 450, in tighter situations I like the 250. But I don't have a lot of experience on them. I have ridden the 450 twice and the 250 once.

what is your weight and skill level??
ANY newer 250f (R) will be lighter and more responsive than your (X) a 450 may be a bit much unless you ride desert like Dag said..

I would wait for some good test ride results before I bought the 2010.

I disagree with spaz, the newer 2010 250f's will pack more than enough punch for your wieght. A 450 is not too much for you but it is definately not going to be as flickable than a newer 250f or even your tank of a 250 now. People seem to underestimate the power of the newer model 250f's. there fast and pack a great punch. You will definately have some fun on a 250f (r)

but if your trails riding a flickable bike wont matter, and if you want more juice later engine mods are gonna cost more than starting with a stock 450f

There are many factors to look into with these bikes.
Yes your 250X may weigh the same as a 450, but it will still have a light weight feel to it because you have less motor and much less power.
I agree with Hellamic, if you are an advanced rider, a MX 250F is probably the better choice. I find that unless you ride a lot of wide open areas, the 450 makes riding less fun.
All of the new 250F's suite a rider of your weight and will pull trail duty with minimal modifications. Plus, riding is all about fun, there is nothing more fun then riding a light flickable bike that you can hold to the throttle stop.
There are killer deals on the 09 250F's right now, and every color is a great bike, although if you ride in areas where elevation changes, perhaps looking at a 2010 EFI bike will make things easier. IMO, as a serious MXer, I find that EFI is a major step in the right direction...

Go with a newer 250, probably one with EFI, but I'm no expert.

SIZE MATTERS
When I was in my 20s and did a lot of sand riding I went out and got a CR-500 R. The power made up for my lack of riding experience.
Looking back, I think I went too big, too soon. Get the 500 in the tight woods of new england and ith becomes a handfull.
Granted, I was 135 lbs young and stupid then. I now weigh 210 and still have the 500 but really like my KTM 200 for tight woods riding.
So I guess it takes multiple bikes to cover different itches...I have KTM 200 EXC vintage Yz 250s, XR-185, Cr-500 r, CB-450 1976 and HD roadking, and some hulks in various stages of assembly.
The right size bike for the right cditions really helps
