Does anyone know where a good staging area would be to start from. Second question Is it legal to dirt bike there. I was reading some articles and a group got busted for riding in? Third If it is possible, everyone is welcome to come on the trip. I will post details later.

Nice! I haven't been there nor do I know the rules. Where are you planning on starting your adventure? By my uncle's house in Grass Valley, they have a dual-sport club that meets monthly to plan ride like that. Try googling "ohv trails to Bodie, CA".

My dad & brother stopped by there on the way home from Hangtown this year. I've seen pictures, it's an actual ghost town unlike our Knott's-owned Calico Ghost Town.

I've been there, but don't know if it is legal or a good place to start.  I am pretty sure it is a state park, so, it is probably illegal, as most things in CA are now days.  I would definately be up for the ride if you can put it together.
