just curous i have a 2007 kx450f and on the hours on the bike what kinda maintenance should i be doin. i do oil changes every 10 hours, chain i clean every ride and re wax, i check the spokes. im only riding track though and im starting to have some issues like stalling out on tight turns when im breaking hard could that be from valves? should i get those adjusted or could it just be me not riding right? idk i just started noticing it and it sucks cause i went ot the the inside real hard and it stalled and iwasn't able to make the pass. =[

valves should be check periodically. it just sounds like your brake is either sticking or you're not pulling in the clutch when you brake really hard.

ya JON when i hit my back break into a corner you have to have your clutch pulled in hard, or yours could be adjusted wrong and thats why your stalling taht use to happen to me before i adjusted my clutch tighter, then i dont have that problem tahts just your clutch, i heard you should adjust your valves every 20-25hrs or ride time, but some old guy who was riding forever i asked him when should  i do them and he said when they start getting loud??? or somthing or when you can hear them??? so.... i dont know what that means???

Jon, the problem is your bike is green. It should be blue.
Seriously though, I guess if you're coming into a tight corner in 3rd or higher you're going to have to clutch if you don't want to downshift. That's what I always assumed anyway. C'mon, I wanna see you draggin those bars tomorrow at Pala.

If your coming into a corner in 3rd and you stay in 3rd, stay on the gas and feather the clutch all the way through the turn.
If your hitting the rear break hard then it must be a quick 180 or close to it in which case you can pull in the clutch, power slide, down shift to 2nd, gas it and let out the clutch.
This will keep the bike from stalling. If you pull the clutch in to late the bike will stall.
This all happens in a second or two so it takes a little practice.

This is just one way to take turns. There many other ways also.

pojp58I love this dirt stuff.

Your racing and only changing your tranny oil every 10hrs???? I would be changing it a little more frequently Jon. try breaking that schedule in half. A valve adjustment or check is always smart with those things so you should definately get them checked.

on alex's comment. once your valves start tapping (making noise) it's too late to save them.

Yeah, I'll be there tomorrow. I've got the bike loaded already. And yes, that Kawi is a beast compared to my YZ.

well just to let you know, in a race bike such as mine and yours, never run those metal filters that can be used again, they suck. Use paper it filters 20% better than a metal reuseable one, no joke i wanted to buy one of those metal ones and my mech was like you do not run stainless steel filters i race bikes you use paper they filter way way better!!! hes been racing and a mech for 15-20 yrs so i trust him i thought i would let you know, and i am not lieing about that fact. But its your bike you do what you want.
