sell it(the x) and buy the other(the r) than it will be just as light!

good question tex, hopefully someone will come on and give you some good ideas.  It might take some research time (like looking into an aftermarket exhaust system, to compare the weight to the stock one) and money (like new handlebars, sprockets, footpegs, said exhaust, etc.).  Good luck

you actually will be better off just getting the R because if you want to drop enough weight to make it like the R, it's gonna crush your wallet.

it will never be as light the e-start with the battery will always be the biggest issue with weight, then the larger stator with the lights and so on and so on,these are purpose built buy 2 bikes, cause they do different things better than their counterparts.

I agree with spaz.  I've owned the 250X and now have a 250 XC-W.  I don't have the specs for the honda, but I'm pretty sure the bikes are about the same weight but they handle totally differently.  The X felt like a tank and the XC-W feels almost like a motocross bike. It's a good trail bike but it wouldn't be worth the money to try to make it something it isn't imo.

It would be a matter of taking off all the parts that make the X, well, the X.  Like the lights, like the e-start, and any protection you have on there (i.e. rad guards, skid plates, etc).

I understand the issue with weight...it's a problem for me too....time to hit the gym! hahaha.

Good luck though!

You cannot effectivly lower the weight of this bike, but the only was is to remove Battery, starter, change radiators, and the other parts , leaving a gaping hole where the aterter once sat. Even thoug the power and transmission would still be different than the R.
I think the first piece of advice, if you really want a lighter bike would be your best

it would make the bike feel a bit lighter if u set ur ride hight.  if the bike sits to low it will feel wallowy n heavy. also try a more narrow rear tire, your not going to suffer for traction and it will have a quicker steering feeling.  little things go a long way.  dont wory about the weight, wory about the set up.  tear it up

i felt like my 250x was a bit too  heavy at first, then i started lifting weights now i man-handle it.

are you trying to lighten the load simply for racing? the head light and all those wires would be the 1st thing i would take care of. idk if you still have your kickstand mounted but id drop that also. id just replace everything that i could with titanium parts.

sell it and buy that 199# ktm :P
